Those of you that hunt with 50cal?

In my Traditions Hawken I shoot 85gr Goex, .490RB with pillow ticking patch. That's for deer and elk.No complaints here. George

How soon to clean fired gun?

Amen, bro. Too tired to clean a gun? I wonder what the oldtimers would have thought of that...

    Black powder vs new versions???

I generally do most of my shooting while hunting (or sighting in) and I use BP and Pyrodex in my .50 caplock. I always clean my rifle right after shooting so the corrosion problem is not a one vs. the other problem with me. I have never had a problem with Pyrodex or BP (except the very rare...

    Caps

Is anyone else having problems finding percussion caps? I can find none in my area (N. Idaho) except musket caps. I've checked Midway and a few other online sites. Anybody know of anywhere on line that has them in stock? This sucks. George

    Do you REALLY hunt??

This says it all. And yeah, I really hunt. Been hunting all of my life. Since I've been perusing different internet 'outdoors' sites I've seen this argument pop up over and over. I don't give a rat's patootie what someone hunts with, so long as it's legal. I shoot a .50 with a PRB and all the...

Question for the "old guys"...Is it just me or are there others?

I just turned 59 and feel pretty much the same way as most of the posters in this thread. I'm a disabled vet and teach guitar and have been playing in bands all of my life. Still go on the road playing now and then, but less and less all the time. I like old stuff (fortunately so does my wife)...

    Muzzleloading Future

Well, Cynthialee, we obviously are neighbors. I usually can find enough stuff at Black Sheep in Coeur D'Alene - until the recent buying panic - and the Cabelas in Post Falls is..well, it's Cabelas. I live 40 miles from CD'A, 30 from Post Falls and 50 from Spokane, so I can appreciate your travel...

    Muzzleloading Future

I often wonder why many people find it necessary for the amount of people participating in a given hobby to 'grow'. Other than the fact that more demand for guns, powder, caps, flints etc. will lead to further production - and maybe a price drop - of those items, I don't see a reason to worry...

Only One Caliber.. What Woulda It Be?

If only one rifle, a .50 cal flinter.

    Help...i shattered a nipple.

Yup. On the first shot with my Traditions .50 cal Hawken kit gun the nipple shattered. I now have several stainless extras.

The hunt or the kill ?

Both, of course. I hunt for meat and I hunt for the experience. If it was just meat I would go to the grocery store and probably spend less than I've spent hunting for the past 40-something years. I think we all enjoy the hunt, regardless of the method(s) we use. Hell, I have friends who think...

What is 'brass black' and where does one find it? George

    Drum and Bolster

Hi ya'll new here..how about going the other way? Say I wanted to convert my Traditions Hawken caplock to flint? I did this with a CVA Kentucky back in the 70s. Does someone make a flintlock and vent that would fit the Traditions caplock barrel? George
