    Brown everything?

That rifle is sweet. I thought long and hard about a patchbox and cheek piece inlay in german silver on my GPR flinter but I chickened out. Wish I would've now. I LIKE! Is your heart inletted or standing proud. Kooner

    Brown everything?

Thanks Boone. I removed the bluing with naval jelly on the blued parts and then just used files, different grits of sandpaper and finely OOOO steel wool on the nose cap. I read a post somewhere about applying naval jelly to dull them parts down somewhat so to make them look like pewter. It...

    Brown everything?

Put together a GPR kit last year and didn't brown the nose cap, escutcheons or wedge pins. I browned every thing else including the triggers and trigger plate. I'm new to this posting stuff but I'll try to send a picture of it so you can see if you like it or not. [url]...

    gunkit ?

Bought a GPR kit from Midsouth and didn't like the stock. They replaced the kit promptly with no hassels. Good price and great company to deal with.

    BeesWax & Olive Oil

I also use TG's ratio. 2/3 olive oil to 1/3 bees wax. Use for patch lube, lip balm, leather conditioner, gun stock wax, etc. Good stuff and cheap to make.

    GPR nosecap

On my GPR kit I just finished I put a coat of naval jelly on the nose cap for 30 minutes or so and polished it a little with a flannel rag. Gave it a nice pewter look. The naval jelly will dissolve the factory bluing on your GPR nose cap easily and you might just like the looks of it with just...

    Correct period for gun?

Right on Old Charlie! Two kids in college and two more on the way I can't afford a custom as much as I would love to have one. I can still have fun with my GPR. Don't get worked up with all the different opinions on this forum. That's what makes America great!

    Wow !

Unbelievable forum. I was into BP 20 years ago but lost interest and sold my stuff. Now with the kids growing up and leaving the nest my interest has rekindled. Started messing around making knives and now working on a GPR flint kit. There is so much info on this forum it's mind boggling. I...

I've only done 1 kit before about 20 years ago and it was a 44 cal. navy revolver. Easy kit, just used paste blue for the metal and it turned out nice. Thanks for the offer to answer my questions. I hate to use up forum space but also being new to massage boards I need to ask another stupid...

Very nice work Old Salt. The browning looks awesome! I'm in the process of starting my own GPR flinter and have a couple questions for you. Did you stain the stock or just use an oil finish. Did you brown the wedge pins and screw heads or use as is. It's my first rifle kit so I'm pretty green...

    Vinegar Stain?

Have a pot of vinegar and nails brewing. Found some old twisted-iron lightning rod holders, cut them into pieces and threw them in the pot. At 2 weeks the brew looks like a big jug of Guinness Stout complete with brown foamy head. Rubbed some on a piece of white oak and it turned a nasty black...
