    Scrimshaw moose antler

I really hate you guys that can draw and scrimshaw ... :ghostly: I stink on ice and if I draw a stickman, he looks like the has scoliosis, a broken leg, twisted arm, and had his head beaten with a bat. I tried to scrimshaw a horn once and it just looked like a truck fender that...

CLOSED Lyman Great Plains 54 Set

What is the deal with the patch box on the rifle? Was that added on by the previous owner or were they offered / built with them back in 1992? I've never seen a GPR with one before.

    58 Remington and Nipple fouling

I like the looks of you gun, and your grips. The grips have a kind of tiger strip look to them. I bet they will only improve with age, nice job!

    58 Remington and Nipple fouling

AlexB, I'll give that a try then. I wanted to take the grip off to be able to see the hammer spring and see what effect the tension screw was having visually. Plus, I wanted to take the grips off to strip that blasted ugly 'store-bought glaze' off the grips and give it a nice, natural finish...

    58 Remington and Nipple fouling

Some confusion so let me clear some things up ... Brand new Uberti 1858 Navy revolvers with 7 3/8 barrels. Stock nipples. CCI No. 10 Percussion caps. (NOTE: Have been sticking to the stock nipples and No. 10 caps as I still have 4.5K left) Goex 3F powder. .380 ball, 99.9 lead. Son's...

    58 Remington and Nipple fouling

Using Goex 3F Powder. Going down to 25 grains did not help the issue this morning. I have been seating the caps on the original nipples with a wooden dowel. Next step is to just go ahead and cock the hammer and pull the trigger (at the target six times) to seat the caps using the hammer) and...

    58 Remington and Nipple fouling

My son and I just tooK our 58 Remington revolvers out and shot them over the last couple of weekends and I've got to say that we are greatly impressed, surprised, and enamored with them versus our 51 Navies. Our Navies and our Remington Navies are Uberti Manufactured, so same quality - same...

    RevWar 3lb Cannon Progress

Dang, loaded with some grape shot and that would be one well defended fort.

2024 cap update, bad and the bad

Smoke, it may be time to invest in some Slix Shot nipples that will allow you to use No. 11 caps on your revolver.

    Uberti Dragoon issue, need help

Yes, I did remove the screw and the wedge completely. I will have my son hold the frame tomorrow and use a 3/4 inch dowl rod as a 'punch' and lightly tap it / the frame while holding the barrel assembly to see if that works. Thanks for the ideas guys!

    Uberti Dragoon issue, need help

I have a new in box Uberti 3rd model Dragoon revolver that I bought a few months ago that I finally got around to today. I cut out, dyed, and stitched up a new half flap holster and belt for it and punched out some lubed wads for it, easy enough. Figured that I had enough time to take the...

Read it in an article last year, IIRC. I'll try to find it.

    A Quick GOEX Update

The Gov / military has to 'Buy American' and that is why they invested heavily in getting Goex back up and running. Getting Goex back up has the second order effects of securing an uninterrupted, IF they do not blow up again, supply of black powder for the various military / munitions...

    Wad Lube Recipe

Currently in Texas, El Paso specifically so basically two seasons .... hot as hell and cold. As for a wad lube and 'components', I currently have 5lbs of beeswax, olive oil, and about 10lbs of Mutton Tallow in the freezer. I gathered all that up to make up some patch lube for my plains rifle...

No. 11 Caps on a Musket

Springer, thanks for the heads up. While I have Grafs bookmarked, they did not pop up in a search for musket caps for sale in a search. I'll put an order in for some today.

No. 11 Caps on a Musket

Almost pulled the trigger on the purchase of a Pedersoli 1841 Mississippi Rifle Friday. While doing some research I discovered that the 8 tins of CCI Musket percussion caps I bought are apparently garbage for actually slinging lead, more for noise making. I searched the web and could not find...

    Woods Walk Course Design

Find or set up a log at approximately 15 yards and take a battery operated drill and drill some holes spaced out in a line where you and either insert some wooden dowels or some sticks you wittle down (cheaper) and stick in the holes. On the sticks you can insert some old potatoes, apples, or...
