    .54 Deerstalker

Thanks for the tips guys. I'll have to give that a try.

What do you use for a pick?

I installed an RMC touch hole liner , and I use a pick that came on the Flinters Ring of Tools or with the Traditions Flintlock Shooter's Kit. I prefer the former because it's larger and fits the RMC liner well.

    .54 Deerstalker

I have the same. I'm not sure how people get good groupings at 75-100 yards when the front sight covers nearly the whole target at that distance... Any tips?

.50 and .54 or consolidate on one caliber?

    I won't deny that I had considered this. :)

.50 and .54 or consolidate on one caliber?

Wanted a GPR so mostly a question of which caliber in that rifle and the trade-offs of 2 calibers vs. 1. Decided I'll get the .54 when I can get away with it without my wife kicking me out of the house.

    What flints.

I'd like to pick up a dozen of these for my Lyman Deerstalker. Unfortunately, they're out of stock in my size for now. I ordered a dozen flints from Stonewall Creek Outfitters (very good reputation). All they had were French flints in the size I needed. Unfortunately, the angle doesn't seem to...

.50 and .54 or consolidate on one caliber?

AIUI, PA no longer has a roundball requirement for traditional muzzleloader season? In any case, I do plan to use PRB.

.50 and .54 or consolidate on one caliber?

Consensus seems to be to get the .54. Only real qualm was having to have two sets of accessories, but I guess I'll get over that.

    Are you under 40?

I'm 33, and I just got started this year. I was never really interested; I always thought it was complicated, antiquated, inaccurate, and less effective. And other reasons. I started this year as a way to extend the season, and now I'm really interested and enjoying it. And the experience has...

.50 and .54 or consolidate on one caliber?

I just recently got a Lyman Deerstalker in .50, and aside from some QC issues, I really like it. I've also been considering picking up a Lyman GPR which comes highly recommended, especially in .54. I plan to use mostly PRB, and .50 and .54 will both be perfectly adequate for deer hunting in...

    Lyman Deerstalker

Great info. I'm on the road now so will have to check those things later this week.

    Lyman Deerstalker

I'll give them a call on Monday and see what they say.

    Lyman Deerstalker

So, I just received by Lyman Deerstalker today, and I'm not super happy with the QC. Four issues: 1. The barrel wedge won't go through the left escutcheon. Skinned my knuckles, put some light scratches on the stock, and put a little bulge in the left escutcheon trying to get the wedge through...

    Lyman Deerstalker

Is it common for a factory finished wood stock to swell enough to crack?

How much ffg vs. ffffg to order?

One more question, do barrel length, twist, or projectile influence the granularity you choose? Not sure what I'll be shooting, but it will be out of a Lyman Deerstalker .50 flintlock with 24" barrel and 1:48 twist.

How much ffg vs. ffffg to order?

All good info. Thanks a lot. I'm in central PA, about 45 minutes from Harrisburg.

How much ffg vs. ffffg to order?

I know it's been discussed elsewhere, but I couldn't find a really clear answer, even reading the regulations. In Pennsylvania, I thought I read that the limit for possession without special storage requirements is 10lb but could be wrong. If so, would need to divide that 25lb across 3...

How much ffg vs. ffffg to order?

Thanks for all the replies. Sounds like I should just get 5lb of 3F for now.

How much ffg vs. ffffg to order?

I'm going to put together an order for ffg and ffffg for a .50 cal rifle. Going to order from here, but I'm curious how much of each to buy to make up 5lb or 10lb total: https://powderinc.com/product/mix-and-match-5lbs-black-powder/...
