    Replacing a sideplate?

Thank you all! Good things here I never would have found on my own. I'll let you know how it goes.

    Replacing a sideplate?

Sorry for reposting this on a different board, but I think it's a better fit here. I'm doing a few things to improve a Jukar flintlock rifle to learn some techniques at a low risk. I really dislike the sideplate, and I'm wondering if there's any difficulty I'm overlooking. Yes, I do know that...

    Jukar sideplate

Excellent replies, thank you! To clarify, this is my first time working on a rifle. I'd like to fix up a few things with it, and risk only a little over $200 rather than make a $1200 mistake the first time around. The sideplate doesn't remotely resemble anything I've seen on original...

    Jukar sideplate

I've seen at least a few refinished Jukar rifles, but no one seems to replace that goofy sideplate. Is there any particular reason? Is it too difficult a thing to do, or am I the only one who dislikes the original sideplate?

    Tang bolt problem

Wow! Thanks to all who answered! I've got some things to try. What I didn't take a photo of is the joint of the two piece stock. There's a gap the same size as the one at the breech. I've read that these rifles have slack in the trigger. This one doesn't. My guess is that someone...

    Tang bolt problem

Thanks! One of the first problems is that the slot is stripped, and I can't get the bolt out. Any recommendations?

    Tang bolt problem

I just bought an old Jukar flintlock rifle, and found this when it arrived. The tang bolt is "buggered", and apparently in the wrong place. It's shifted the barrel forward, and misaligned the touchhole. How difficult is this to fix?

    Euroarms 1803 Harpers Ferry

How well did the internals fit?

    1803 Euroarms vent liner size?

I've searched all over this forum and the internet and have yet to find the size of the Euroarms 1803 Harpers Ferry Rifle vent liner. If anyone could let me know what it is, I'd be very grateful. Thanks!

    Getting a frizzen rehardened

Thanks! I'm glad I decided to read up on the subject before buying Kasenit. I was just about to make the purchase.

What do you use to get the metal to turn blue?

    Lock bolt misalignment

Maybe I didn't describe the issue so poorly after all. I really like and appreciate all the suggestions. I believe what I'll try is retapping the existing hole, and if that fails, I'll plug it and make a new one. You gentlemen have all been very kind and helpful. Thanks again to all for your...

    Lock bolt misalignment

Thanks! First off, I'll clarify that the hole in the new lockplate seems to be just barely higher than in the old one. The hole through the stock is clear, and the bolt would fit in just fine if it wouldn't enter and exit the stock at an angle. I'm finding this somewhat difficult to...

    Lock bolt misalignment

I have an India Pattern Bess repro that is, appropriately enough, made in India. I bought it after someone else had very competently converted it to percussion. I am now in the process of attempting to fit it with an intact flint lock that was also made in India. I bought the replacement lock...

    What's a wiper?

They're often called a "worm" based on their similarity to the artillery implement of the same name. It's a cleaning attachment that consists of two prongs twisted into a corkscrew shape. You put a patch on it and wipe the bore with it, hence the name.

    150-year-old loaded musket

Is it possible to remove the lock? If so, that would give you access to the nipple.

    under hammer rifle ?

It would be nice to see a mass marketed product that's more authentic than the old H&A guns, and not made from stolen parts. It seems entirely doable, and even simple, depending on the design.

    great service at the wolf

I placed an order with TOW a few weeks ago about 6:30am on a Wednesday before leaving for work with a brief note letting them know I needed the items quickly. When I returned, I saw had an email in my inbox since shortly before 10am giving me the tracking number of my order. I arrived home from...

    Lead from dental x-ray backing

I got a bunch from my in-laws who are redoing their house after a flood. This stuff apparently came from a shower pan.

    The 1792 Contract Rifle.....Lewis and Clark C. of D..

I too have a bit of an issue with the "M1800" designation. I don't think that one example with no provenance is sufficient to declare a previously unheard of "pattern".
