    Damasteel

Has anyone used damasteel in construction yet? I am interested in getting a barrel machined for a project rifle, may be a few smaller parts as well. http://www.damasteel.com/firearms.html DC

    walker out of timing

John, thanks. The spring looks good, and what you described is happening, though the bolt looks pretty worn. Is the bolt the final stop in the timing sequence? Thanks again, DC

    walker out of timing

I have a Walker I bought to hang on the wall in my garage/disassemble for fun($25). It is pretty much a junker, kit w/ bad finish, not cleaned properly, etc.... I noticed when cocked, the cylinder continues to revolve about 1/4 inch past battery, as the hammer does not stop, and also continues...

    Two TVM companies

Past winter I saw a post about two TVM companies, one being Tennessee Valley Manufacturing and the other I've forgotten. I cannot find it again. I believe the other TVM had a poor boy kit for sale at an excellent price. Can someone refresh me on the name of that company? Thanks, DC

    Colt Frequent Jams

I noticed the balls sliding forward in my first 51 Navy, and after a lot of frustration, I found that the rammer nose had a burr on it that was just enough to catch the ball and sometimes pull it forward enough to have it ease it's way into a jam after the first couple of rounds. Polished off...

Replacing single trigger w/ double set trigger

Finally finished. Took a lot of time to get to it, then to get to it again, etc. The trigger inletting info was priceless. New stock was eventually required, but I am much better with a chisel now. I owe daveol for the free trigger, if you need something, call, brother. Post a picture of the...

main spring tension on uberti 1860

flinch, hope I'm not bringing up something you've thought of, but is there a mark or a high spot in the frame / hammer where they are meeting? Is the hammer nose long enough? I fixed a Walker with that problem fir a friend once, there was a high spot in the frame in the hammer slot that was...

    Cavalry Le Mat dissasembly

Yep, got sidetracked for a couple of days. Tried the soft tap with the nylon hammer today, and bingo. Lever flipped down, guns comes apart, and getting to the range next weekend. Thanks mec. DC

    True gunslinger weapon

Thats based in fact, but on old mettalurgy. Stainless in firearms is just fine. It may ruin what you are looking for in a "true cowboy gun", however, as it was not available in the day. DC

    Cavalry Le Mat dissasembly

Okay, Mec, I am going to give it a go tomorrow, maybe even with the nylon hammer and see what happens. Let ya'll know on this topic. Including range pics if I get there soon. Thanks for the info. DC

    Cavalry Le Mat dissasembly

Okay, I have a new Le Mat cavalry model by Pietta. Love it. Trying to figure out the tear down on it, and can't because I am afraid to force anything. As it seems to me, the takedown lever isn't really a lever that swings in a downward motion at all. It feels (because it won't budge in a...

Louisiana / Gulf coast area rifles

Yes, I wasn't intending to head off topic, just post another thank you, let others who may want a weapon with direct ties to the area know how I solved my problem under the same topic, and let you know that all the previous info that was shared w/ me will play into my decision later.

Louisiana / Gulf coast area rifles

As a follow-up, I decided against getting another long gun now, and picked up a LeMat revolver. No questions on the Louisiana origins of that weapon. I still plan to get a fusil or trade gun in the future. Thanks again for all the training. DC

    Removing excess metal

Roger that on using bench grinder wheels for materials they were not designed for. I've seen the loss of two toes to a chunk of wheel loaded w/ brass shattering, and heard of much worse. Buffing wheels are even more dangerous when used incorrectly, no matter the material.

    DGW-Tennesee Rifle-Flint

I have a Frontier in .32 and a Tenn MTn Rifle in .50. My TMR is percussion, but as far as handling, I like the Frontier's feel as it is a little less nose heavy, yet the TMR is more comfortable against my shoulder. The TMR has put up w/ significant accidental abuse w/o problems. Both are more...

Louisiana / Gulf coast area rifles

That's why I asked here when I started striking out w/ my limited research materials. Mike, Crackstock, thanks for the help, and the history fill-in. I'm really leaning toward a French trade gun. DC

Louisiana / Gulf coast area rifles

Yeah, it's nice that the Bowie is so well documented. I have one of the repro's from DGW. I did some digging over the past few days, and found that French parts have been found at several LA archeological sites. That would push me into the French musket or trade gun. They probably would've...

Louisiana / Gulf coast area rifles

Cosmetically correct is what I am looking for. Early American period would work, especially if it would combine features peculiar to the area with the Southern rifle design. A French Fusille form would probably fit in as well. I really like those too, and if it had modifications that were known...
