    KIK Powder

I am considering ordering a case of powder and have been comparing prices. I found in Powder Inc. KIK powder which is cheaper than Goex. I know you get what you pay for but wondering if any of you have ever used KIK and how it compares to Goex or Schuetzen.

    hair removal

I appreciate the suggestions. I'm not sure if the hide is tanned or not. The hair is already coming off the hide in small chunks at a time. Thinkin off taking the clippers to it. Maybe it'll get the moth ball smell out.

Safety checklist for newly built gun

After reading this forum, I am a little concerned. My Lancaster kit that I put together, I had to drill/tap the vent liner partly into the breech plug because of how the barrel and lock lined up. Will this weaken the plug in anyway say if I use 80g of ffg or am I just getting the jitters being...

    Backwoodsman Magazine

I read the article. I would think it would be hard to hunt or even target shoot with it if you had to rely on the wick. Maybe someone read about the early matchlocks and wanted to create a modern version.

    Glass bedding and staining

I plan on applying glass bedding in the breech and lock mortice area for extra strength. I read the directions but still a little confused. Is it better to apply before or after staining the stock ? I am going to use American Walnut on a maple stock.

    Brass Wire Inlay

Thanks to everyone for their ideas and the few pictures that were posted. This helps me further to what I want to create. I didn't know about the undercutting and creating burrs for a better hold. I figured this forum wouldn't let me down :hatsoff:

    Brass Wire Inlay

I honestly couldn't tell you what references I used to come up with the idea to do brass wire inlay. I know that I read many books and magazines of BP firearms that showed inlays and came up with my own pattern. Also this site and the internet in general is also a good source. As far as tools, I...

    Brass Wire Inlay

I am planning on doing some wire inlay work on my Lancaster and was wondering what glue, if any, is good to use ? I used a water/white glue mixture on an earlier kit I put together but after 10 yrs. the wire is separating. Any ideas ?

    opinion

I have a Traditions Kentucky rifle that I put together 11 yrs. ago and still shoots good. It took me alot of rounds to sight it in just like any ML. I take mine out hunting and to blackpowder shoots.

    beeswax

Thanks again for the advice  Asking questions on this forum beats trying to look for the answers in a book. Can't beat good advice from those who have experience and willing to share information

    beeswax

Have I read it right on this forum that you can use beeswax in the barrel channel and under the barrel to prevent moisture and rust from forming when the stock and barrel are pinned together

    stock cleaning

I am about ready to stain my Lancaster stock and was wondering what to use to get smudges and candle sut off the stock. Also, is bleaching required on a curly maple stock ?

    vent liner trouble

I didn't think of countersinking first then boring the hole out. I'll try to remember that next time or just use a simpler vent liner all together. I ended up filing the liner flush. It looks alright minus a small ring around the liner. If someone asks about it I'll tell the person it give the...

    vent liner trouble

The countersink bit is an 82 degree bit. The problem is that the vent liner has that little lip on top. I didn't think to buy a liner that was all thread and no top lip.

    vent liner trouble

I drilled and tapped the hole for my vent liner without any problems. The problem I do have is getting the liner flush with the barrel. I tried to countersink it with a countersink bit and a drill bit. I have most of it in but still have just a hair of the liner sticking out to where it will...

    Your First Muzzleloader?

My first ML was a Traditions DeerHunter .50cal. My mother bought it as a Christmas gift when I was 16. My Dad wasn't sure I knew how to load it. Proved him wrong after hitting my target. I learned how to load a ML from a book prior to Christmas. I still have the rifle in my gun cabinet.

about CVA and Traditions long rifles

I bought a Traditions percussion Kentucky rifle kit 11 years ago and still shoots well for hunting. I even won 2nd place in a turkey shoot with it :applause: The stock on it though is plain birch but it's a useful rifle. The barrel is about 33" and the lock is decent quality case hardened
