Great Plains Black Powder Rifle Barrel 54 Caliber Percussion

 I just bought the slow twist barrel for my GPR in 50 caliber. They were out for awhile and when I saw they had some I grabbed it. Looks like it was the last one from their website. Anyway, it was shipped in a timely manner. Got it just after Christmas, no problems. Since money is tight I...

    It's a family tradition

 I'm not sure how to respond after watching the video. I did not get the "chanting" or "poetry" or whatever you want to call it. It is the south so I imagine there are a lot of old traditions that still live on. The firing of the muzzleloaders is even an old tradition, more so in...

    GPR Peep sight

Did you use the existing screws on your GPR or use the screws that came with the TC hunter tang sight? Lyman makes good products, but I'm with you. Those other sights are too bulky. Would you be able to send me some photos of your GPR with the TC tang sight installed? :)

    GPR Conversion

I thought about the cost factor as well, but my plan is to sell the percussion lock and hunter barrel. I don't hunt with it and I prefer round balls over the conicals.

    GPR Conversion

I have a question...I have a GPR in percussion with a hunter barrel. I would like to replace the lock and barrel to convert it to flint. Will the lock drop in the stock or will I have to do some work to the stock for the different lock?

Crockett or Traditions small game hunter?

I don't have an opinion on the small game hunter, but I have the Traditions Crockett .32 caliber. Very accurate rifle! I use real black powder with PRB. Small diameter barrels seem to foul pretty quick. I finally went to a thin lubed patch (.005) which allows me to keep firing w/o cleaning...

    Crocket Rifle

I use real black powder in mine. I noticed it fouls up pretty quick. I then switched from lubed .010 patches to the thinner .005 lubed patches. I still need to use a ball starter, but it is much easier to load. I messed up my brass entry thimble trying to enlarge the hole. I called Traditions...

    "fifteen pound rifle"?

I had not heard of that rifle, but I believe it. I have a halfstock hawken flintlock listed in the classified forum and it weights 13 lbs. Most of the weight is the barrel. :hatsoff:

    Where is your favorite source?

One supply store I did not see on the list was The Gun Works in Springfield, Oregon. They advertise they have the largest selection of muzzleloading supplies West of the Mississippi. I live in Southern Oregon, about 3 hours away. If I order something from them I get it the next day! It's a mom...

    GPR trigger pull

Is that screw metric? Do you know what size?

    GPR trigger pull

I recently bought a GPR Hunter rifle. It is used, but in new condition. I also have a GPR that was made from a kit. The rifle made from a kit has a nice, smooth easy trigger pull while the Hunter has a much harder trigger pull and doesn't feel as smooth. I tried playing with the small screw...

    Buffalo Ball-etts

Anyone try Buffalo Ball-etts before? They are advertised as being able to shoot from a slow and fast twist barrel. Do you use a patch with them? Do you prelube them instead. Any information would be greatly appreciated. thanks. :hmm: :)

    Lyman Trade Rifle

Can anyone tell me a little bit about these rifles? They look similar to my Investarms Hawken, but without the patchbox and double triggers. Do they have a check rest or is the stock plain? Can't tell from small photos on the net, but is the lock engraved or plain? Any help would be appreciated...

    half stock w/37 inch barrel

The length of pull for this rifle is 14 1/4". Should that be long enough?

    half stock w/37 inch barrel

All sounds good. I intend to buy another rifle. It's a toss up between the TC 45 cal. Hawken with the 37 inch barrel and a 50 cal GPR. I have a GPR in 54 cal. so the TC might be the ticket. It's mainly for target shooting. :) :)

    half stock w/37 inch barrel

I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with a halfstock percussion with a 37 inch barrel. I see one in a TC Hawken. The barrel is a 45 cal. Would this have a tendency to crack the stock? I know it would be muzzle heavy, but not sure just how much.

    barrel finish

I have never put a finish on a barrel before. I am looking at a muzzleloader to buy that has two coats of browning on it. Not sure what was used, but it looks like a rusty piece of iron. Is there a trick to get it to look a smooth chocolate brown or would I have to strip it and start over...

    Hate the Butt Pad

Lever is a real nice guy to deal with. I sent him photos of my rifle as well as a drawing with dimensions. The patchbox was a little tricky. He forgot to put the scroll work on the side of the butt cover on my first one so he sent a second one at no charge! I think I paid about $50 for it. Worth...

    Hate the Butt Pad

Try looking at an internet site called levergunleather.com.....I ordered a butt cover from him for my custom 1950's model flintlock. It even has a cutout on one side for my patchbox, which was no easy task. I believe you could leave your "ugly" butt pad on the gun and just cover it up. That way...

    Investarms ramrod

Where would I find that tension spring? Is it attached to the barrel? I don't remember seeing one.
