    Davy Crockett King Frontier

Google says Daniel Boone was " produced by Twentieth Century-Fox Film Corporation".

    Davy Crockett King Frontier

Remember Big Mike Fink?? "Wimmen hide, And brave men shiver. 'Cause I'm MIKE FINK! King of the river!" Jeff York had that role nailed!

    Hy-Hunter Buccaneer parts

It's difficult to measure the bore with that coned/funneled muzzle. Mine, as near as I can make out is about .75-plus caliber. They were advertised as .79 but I kind of doubt that. I have a mold for ,714 balls so that's what I use with a couple of denium patches and 35 grains of 3f black. That...

    Value of CVA Pisto Kit

A brand new pistol kit of this type from Traditions (really really close to your kit) sells for $279.95 plus shipping and maybe sales tax as well so Gtrubicon's price is pretty well spot-on. You say you don't have the skills to make it authentic. Perhaps so, but you can pretty well put it...

    Grease hole

Years ago - a lot of years ago - I had a CVA "Kentucky" .45 caliber, two-piece stock, you all know the one I mean. Percussion, shot pretty good. Because it was a plain rifle and my skills to add anything were and are limited, I added a grease hole to the stock. I used a beeswax based lube to...

    Fake arrowhead flints

I've posted about doing this exact same thing before, back about 50 years or so ago when I couldn't find real flints. Back then, living in Michigan, there were numerous souvenir shops that would have a small wicker basket of modern-made arrowheads (some really crude) setting on the counter near...

    Kibler Brown Bess?

"What I see as the problem that @James Kibler would have with a military musket for reenactors of the AWI and the F&I, is that it won't be the specific model that some units will want. The musket will be made of fine parts and will be an easy to assemble kit that will finish up into a musket...

    Kibler Brown Bess?

Although I admire Jim's current offerings I really don't have a hankering to own one. But if he offered a Bess - anything but a 3rd model - I'd be on board. For sure.

    Eye injuries from flintlock?

Of course I wear eye protection. It's not just the pan flash - small bits of flint break off as well. Hence the dulling of flints. And it happens while that pan explosion is in progress. Those flint bits are blown forcibly somewhere.

    Made in Japan

These barrels were used on muskets sold 40 or 50 years ago. I'm sure there was no database to record any issues back then. I remember looking one over at a gun store east of Muskegon, MI on M46 back then. The round section may have been bottomed out where it was screwed into the octagon part but...

    Gunbroker Unscrupulous Sellers

Sold a few things on GunBroker, used to buy but rarely do anymore. They were forced to add state sales tax to the item and so charge a buyers fee (usually 1%) to cover the cost of administering the taxes, plus shipping costs have skyrocketed. When you add those things to your bid it really bumps...

Remember this Davy Crockett movie scene?

Have to keep in mind it was meant to be entertainment, not a documentary. I remember Fess Parker saying that he and Mike Mazurki, the actor portraying Bigfoot Mason, were both big guys and the stuntman Disney had hired for the film was a lot smaller. As a result Fess and Mike had to do a lot of...

    Need help identifying this!

Welcome to the forum. Your pistol is strictky a non-functioning decorator and was never made to fire. As such, it has very little monetary value. But it belonged to your great grandparents so its sentimental value to you is certainly off the charts. Keep it, display it, treasure it.

Rehardening frizzens - one size fits all? Musings for metallurgy masterminds....

Got to join in here. Seems like whenever I read about someone using Kasenit to harden a frizzen face, they follow the directions that come with the product. Those directions weren't written with frizzen hardening in mind. I bought a lot of Kasenit when it was available (fortunately) and use it...

    Shrunk stock

Here's what I've done in the past with two different 1816 Springfields - I made a mixture of half BLO and half mineral spirits and painted a very thin coating on with a 3/4 inch paintbrush everywhere; in the lock mortise, inside the barrel channel, on the buttplate area, everywhere. I let it set...

    1861 Springfield hammer adjustment

I, too, have an ArmiSport '61. Just for comparison, the leading edge of the hammer is 3/8" from the tip of the nipple at half cock. At full cock it's 1 1/8" from the nipple. How does that compare to yours? I've had mine for around 20 years and it fires off caps just fine.

    Buying Original?

If you're going to go original, the 1842 is your best bet if you ever need parts since that was the first model that had interchangable parts; previously muskets were made "to a pattern" and parts, although surprisingly similar, might could need just a minor bit of tweaking to fit. I've had very...

1816 musket conversions to rifled by Colt.

Thanks for posting this. I've got a couple of 1816s with the cone-in-barrel conversion and I learned a bit about them today.
