Fifty caliber caplock with PRB Same gun that's been doing my deer and bear killing for quite a while

    Black bear hunting

Shot a decent sized bear a few years back with 50 caliber RB over bait. Didn't go far. I agree, Black bear seemed to die faster than deer

Wow!!! My wife bought it at a sporting goods store for my birthday and I love it!! I own the traditions kentucky but this is much better. Hope to have many a RB shot at many a Wisc deer and bear with it. It feels so right in my arms

    Alaska Hunting--.50 PRB Enough?

shot a decent sized bruin a few years ago with 50 caliber PRB. I forgot the charge but it was 30 yards or so over a bait pile. ball hit the side, the bear turned to what looked like to bite that side, ran, and i heard it die. it didnt go far. 50 caliber prb will kill a blackie if you make a good...

    Hunting..50 or 54?

Wow. Deer must have gotten larger and meaner since the last time I posted. I used a 50 caliber PRB to take several deer and a decent sized Black bear and none went far. Hmmm...evolution, I guess.

    Cabela's or Traditions

50 caliber traditions kentucky percussion here. i bought it several years ago because I like the 1/66 twist for roundballs. nuttn fancy but i love it. easy to clean, shoot, and it has killed several deer and a bear. I dont see any need for anything else

    Why round balls?

I was hesitant to use a prb at first too. I shoot a traditions kentucky 50 cal with a slow twist barrel. several deer and one black bear later, i cannot see me bow hunting or going back to modern arms

    Bear Hunting with PRB

A few years back I used a 50 caliber roundball with 90 grains of fffg for a bruin over bait. Good sized bear came in, a well placed shot behind the shoulder. he ran about 15 yards and folded. If you get a stout load and shoot over bait, it will work. I would go heavier if you're stalking maybe

    Got an eight point

how do you clean that blue ridge? do you keep the barrel on or unscrew it and take it off?
  13. S

    Got an eight point

I love how those little roundballs really put the hammer down. i have shot many deer and one good sized bear with 50 caliber roundballs and the farthest any animal went was 25 yards. let the amatuers hunt with there new fangled 3x9power scopes with super duper fast modern cartridges in a machine gun

50 or 54 cal for black bear

never shot one with a 54 but did one with a 50 and it worked so i suppose a 54 would work. maybe not better but will work
  15. S

    Co2 dischargers

Would I still have to do the cleaning routine if I discharge the ball and powder this way as opposed to firing it?
  16. S

    Grouse?

you guys need to head to Wisc/ Minnesota. Tons of them around here
  17. S

    Round balls and white tails

6 deer killed by me with 50 cal. PRB. Distance no more than 50 yards. Angles varies. No recovery. All deer died within sight. Eat your heart out, Toby Bridges

    Offhand vs. Rest Shots

Is that the Traditions? I thought the Kentucky only came in .50 caliber?
  19. S

    .50 Enough for Bear?

Yes. Over bait or at close range a 50 cal prb will kill a bear
