    54 Smoothbore PRB Loads

Hello, after many trials with my .54 smoothbore Colerain barrel (44 inch) i found the load my gun likes. 75 grn Swiss No. 2, 1.9 ccm corn meal and a .530 RB with a 0.012 patch, lubed with a own creation of patch milk. This gives me a 3 inch pattern at 55 yards. No wiping between shots necessary.

    FFg in Cal. .36

Hello all, thank you for the advice. I will stuck with the FFFg powder. Yesterday I measured my balls. The mold is signed 0.354. But the bullets I cast out of this mold are 0.352. With this 0.352 RB I used a 0.0165 patch. Moreover I measured the barrel which is 0.360 - 0.361 (not so easy to...

    FFg in Cal. .36

Hello all, did anyone use FFg in Cal. 36 (twist 1:48) Green Mountain barrel (42 inch barrel length)? Till now I have used 28 grn FFFg Swiss and noticed flyers. My impression (or better to say concern) is that in fast twist rifles the FFFg might be to fast. Best regards !

    Fast and low twist

Hello all, is it right that fast twist rifles need a lower powder charge than slow twist ones ? I have a .36 rifle (Green Mountain barrel) that shoot poor groups with 40 grn 3F Swiss powder. Swiss powder is more powerful than Goex so that this load is equal to 46 grn Goex (15 % more power)...

    Patent screw and fowling

Hello roundball, you are right. I mean a breech plug with 'internal design'. That means the breech plug has a 'hole' with a diameter which is smaller than caliber.

    Vent liner hole

Hello all, some days ago I got my new .36 flintlock rifle. The vent liner which is installed has a 1/16 hole outside. Inside the touch hole liner the diameter is 0.157. Do you think that hole (the 1/16) is to big ? In my .54 flintlocks I use also 1/16 holes (in the vent liner) with good...

Need help with Indian Trade gun (20 gauge)

Hello all, thanks for your advice. Like you mentioned I will try to install a rear sight to eliminate human errors at first. With the 60 or better to say 70 grs Swiss No 2 load I have found that the patches show dark streaks which tells me blow by of gases. I found this with and without...

Hello all, some weeks ago I get my assembled Indian Trade gun (20 gauge 36" barrel) from North Star West. The lock and the ignition is very fast and reliable. It has the best ignition of all my flintlocks! The problem I have is to find a good load for shooting at paper targets (50 yards). I...
