I did spend an hour looking for a reply on flashing for caps so sorry if it twists some shorts.
Any way it works, but not by useing a hammer, I cut a strip of flashing insert it in the die and put the die in my vise then slowly PRESS the die to form the cap. I have a 99% success rate I’m betting with a dry lube I cam make it to 100%! Pressing doesn’t stress the cap as much, now to fill them to see how they work.
One strip I heated the aluminum to aneal it cause it is work hard from the rolling to thickness, can’t say if it made much difference.

A followup on flashing for caps. I changed from a vise to my bench drill press just used it like an arbor press. I put one on my 54 cal it fits tight and unfired I had to slip it off the nipple so no worries about loosing a cap in the woods. Next time I’ll report on how they survive the shooting, even the store bought split open, and the dbbl layered soda can caps blow threw.

PS. Press easy don’t slam you will feel the initial punch through then the second resistance of the forming. REMEMBER: the antimony trisulfide is toxic! Wash after done making the caps have no drinks in the work area cause pressing the mix down can puff the mix out if done to quickly, I found dry press will not squish out as fast as a wet mix, then I coat with 50/50 acetone and white rain hair spray one drop ( hair spray is the pump spritz not aerosol) over a year and not a misfire yet 8 lbs of powder and 2 caps per shot. One for cleaning one for fire!

I have done this with .008 thick aluminum. It does help to lube with Jhonson's past wax. Just put it on good and thick and punch away.don't bother in wiping it off. The prime will stay in ok if you use a workable binder. I haven't fired any of these but they look ok . I have made many hundreds of cups with brass and tens of thousands of cups with double pop cans. With a little thought your die will mount up on the drill press and you can really get going.
