hey guys need some advice. just purchased a few tins of remmington #11 caps. at the range i noticed that they fall off the nipple. i tried them on several other nipples and the same thing. i do have some old rem caps and they work fine seat tight to the nipple.

i guess i could crimp them with a little pressure however i wanted to know if anyone is having the same problem.

thanks

Never had that problem with any kind of the #11s. Just give them a little squeeze before you put them on and check your nipple too. Maybe got a little flattened out.

I have more often had to press them down with the hammer! Have just installed a new AMPCO from TOW on my .54 and it is about a perfect a fit as I have had since the mid seventies when I became afflicted with this disease.

I had the same problem with CCI mag's. I have TC hot shot nipples. Pinching them works on the shooting range but not while hunting. I dropped the hammer a few times while the gun was unloaded. It flared the nipple a pinch and the caps stay on. I had to do something and I was on a hunt. It seemed to work fine. Ron

Nipples for rifles generally fit with #11 caps but as you found, that doesn't ring true. If caps were easier to find now, you could buy a tin of each kind and see if one fit your nipples better. I have RWS, Remington, CCI, and Winchester in #11 and none of them fit my CVA shotgun nipples so I use Remington #10s and press them down with the hammer.

One size doesn't fit all .. in anything.

On a rifle? I have had problems from time to time on revolvers but not rifles.

I have quite a few percussion guns and have had various brands of caps over the years. I find too tight or too loose can be a problem with different combinations of nipple brands and cap brands. Given my choice I'd rather have them loose because I can crimp them to get a better fit. Too tight has caused faulty ignition problems as the first hammer strike might not produce ignition just smash the cap down tight. The only other advice I would offer is that if you use loose caps for hunting, check your nipple often as I've had those little buggers fall off even though I had what I thought was a tight crimp on them.
