This slender antique double barrel percussion shotgun has 15 gauge Damascus twist barrels, walnut stock, and engraved nickel silver furniture. This English made double barrel shotgun has Birmingham proof marks on the bottom of the barrels. The English walnut stock has scattered handling marks from 150+ years of handling and use, it also has a very neatly spliced in wood behind the breech. The back action locks are engraved Smith~London, both locks have a crisp action. This light shotgun may become your favorite shooting companion. Trigger reach is 14 1/2" from front trigger. The short barrel length and modest 6.1 pound weight make this a handy shotgun easy to carry.

The 27" Damascus barrels measure .680/.675" diameter in the muzzle which we consider 15 gauge today. Both barrels are in good condition and very shoot able. MWT of the barrels are left barrel .032 (2" from muzzle) and right barrel .026 (4" from muzzle). The breech end of the barrels are stamped with post 1813 Birmingham proof marks. The breech is stamped 16 gauge, but the bore measurements are more typical of what we consider 15 gauge today. The barrels are full original length with tightly fitted ribs and pipes and they retain the ramrod catch, a small lip under the muzzles.

The buttstock is dense European walnut, with a checkered wrist. The buttstock has some pressure dents and dings. It does appear ot have weathered the test of time without any cracks. The wood behind the breech has been very neatly replaced on both sides of the stock, this was likely to repair damage wood charred from repeated cap flash. The wide nickel silver butt plate was designed to provide comfort with full loads. The butt plate has a long stepped English style comb typical of early percussion double barrel shotguns. The back action locks are inset behind the breeches to allow for a very slender wrist. The long breech plug tang reinforces the wrist. The double barrels have nicely shaped hooked breech plugs, which engage the tang. Simply remove the ramrod and wedge key, to unhook the barrels for cleaning. The gun comes with a wooden ramrod and newer delrin rod with shotgun loading tips.

The bottom view shows the German silver trigger guard, with engraved foliage to match the back action lock. The trigger guard has some dried finish applied that has yellowed as it aged. A small inlaid initial plate is mounted on the toe, this small feature is found on many mid 19th century shotguns. Ramrod entry pipe is nickel silver with fancy finial.

The back action locks are engraved with a foliage design. The tall percussion hammers extend over the flash fence to engage the nipples. both locks are crisp with secure half cock notches. The right hand lock is engraved Smith~London. The screw mounting the tail on the left hand locks is a modern replacement. Two modern nipples have been fitted to the breech by the previous owner, ready for shooting. The right side is 1/4-28 nipple. The left nipple is a .265-28 nipple.

I have killed pheasants with this gun with 1 oz of shot and 2 3/4 drams of 2f Goex. This is a great carrying upland hunting muzzle loader double that is a delight to hunt with. I'm asking $1000 for the gun. Shipping will be $60 UPS Ground to your door.
