Hi all

I’m restoring an 1816 spring field musket dated 1822, Harpers Ferry.

The screw thread pitches appear to be 26, however some screws i’ve made appear to be too tight after around 3 three turns, were original 1816 muskets coarse threaded ?

Lock bolts were a straight 1/4 x 26,

Problem is occurring with the sear, tumbler and frizzen screw.

I have read that they are metic, threads had not been standardized at that time like today.
Mausers were built using an inch system of measurement. I've been unable to learn how Mauser's inch compares to the British inch. The metric system wasn't widely used in 1822. It was a french thang.. 1816 guns, I'm 99.9% certain, were built using an American inch.
