Looks like they're gonna be out for a week or so. I've got an event coming up, so I was hoping to get this underway soon... plus, it look slike their '42 parts, assuming they'll work, are quite a bit more expensive. If I'm going to have to tweak/modify parts to fit, I was hoping to find something more along the lines of a set from ArmiSport/Chiappa or something. I got a screw that works as a hammer screw to hold on the hammer, so at least it looks complete externally. I'd just like to get it functioning.

I forgot!! They're at the N-SSA Spring Nationals.

Taylor's & co. http://www.taylorsfirearms.com/ 540.722.2017 is the importer of the Armi Sport/Chiappa 42, which is to the best of my knowledge the only one made. They told me, many years back, that their barrel was so close to an original that many were buying them so they could use them on their original 42s. Call them, good people to deal with. They may be busy coming and going to the N-SSA Nationals till the first of the week.

Thanks hawkeye, I actually ordered some of the '42 parts from them two days ago. From what I can gather, one of the only parts that will not fit on the '35 without some fitting is the mainspring, so I ordered all the Armisport '42 parts except the mainspring and all the screws (I figure I'll need to match the threading on those myself, being a contract musket). I think DGW has a mainspring that is supposed to fit some of the earlier muskets including the '35, so I might order that and see if it works. I just hope it doesn't need to be tempered, 'cause I don't have that capability.

Well, I got the parts from Taylor finally, and on one hand I'm pleased, on another I'm not. I'm pleased that everything I ordered except for one part, the sear spring, was a perfect match for the 1835 Springfield lock, with a little fitting. This amused me greatly because in several correspondances with S&S Firearms the owner there claimed adamantly that no, none of their repro Armisport 1842 parts would fit the original 1835. I was tempted to send him pictures.

On the other hand, I was disappointed with Taylors. When I ordered on their website, it gave me the total and I paid. It appeared to me that everything was in stock. Several days later, I get a package and excitedly open it to find only some of the parts there, and the slip revealing that several were out of stock. I received a call from them saying that they were having a hard time getting spare parts from Armisport/Chiappa, and it would probably be the end of June before they got any, thus they would call me back and ask if I still wanted them whenever they did get them in. So I got a call a few days ago, telling me they were in, but that was when I found out that they were charging me the additional shipping cost for those parts. Three small parts that could fit in a USPS envelope for under a dollar. They already charged me $12 and some change for shipping in a small box that contained four or five small parts that could also have been sent for half that if not less. I was rather peeved that because they did not have the parts they advertised online as being in stock, they want me to pay the full shipping on two separate orders. For the second order, the lady on the phone offered find a cheap way to send it, USPS or otherwise, and it should only cost around $6. I was rather frustrated by this point, but told her yes to send them. On top of this, they asked if I wanted a catalogue when they sent the second batch. I figured sure, it shouldn't add much to the package. I was wrong. The box I received was about 12"x14"x3", and all because of their catalogue. So I got stuck for even more shipping because of their catalogue. The first box I received had more parts in it, and was significantly smaller than the second one. And yet the second (larger) one still cost just over half of what they charged me for shipping on the first. So in all, they charged me nearly $20 for shipping on a middle band and swivel, hammer screw, sear spring, sear, bridle, tumbler, and nipple.

I hate to say it, because they seem like nice people, but I doubt I'll order anything from them again without first looking long and hard for another company.
