1851 Colt Navy with Ivory grips

Here is my recently acquired 1851 Colt Navy with Ivory Grips from the estate of a Special Forces Veteran of the Vietnam Era.

A Navy colt with ivory grips, just don’t get any better in cap and ball revolvers.

I think the ivory grips on any nicely blued revolver is the cat's MEOW!!!! Midway USA has an 1858 Remington engraved model with ivory grips for sale now- not cheap - but NICE - I just purchased one

No, it is an Uberti. Real Colt’s usually have silver plated trigger guards and backstrap I think. At least my Colts do.

All the steel frame black powder revolvers look good with ivory colored grips. The ivory just makes the rest of the pistol stand out. I have a couple with faux ivory grips. I do like the bone grips on an 1851 or 1860 also.

Are there not a bunch of laws and regulations concerning ivory and its import? I had thought we were relegated to using ivory substitutes.

I forget who said that if there was one pair of breeding dinosaurs left in the world some a**hole would shoot the male. Likely he would be an underemployed elephant poacher.

Yes, lots of regulations. I believe it’s banned.

Lots of regulations on importing ivory and selling ivory but there are some decent substitutes like American ivory. I think it was around ten years ago the a lw was passed banning the sale of ivory.
