Maybe some day someone with a metal detector in the southeast will dig up a brass framed .44.
and it will turn out to date to our time period
:blah:

I did hear there were some .40 prototypes made ...
:stir:

Yeah, saw a website blurb about Colt doing some .40 prototypes.

Right now im making all my guns fit either a 20g load or a 26 just because thats the scoop i have to measure the powder with.

.40 S&W for 3F
45ACP for 2F

I shot these 2 today 20G (40S&W) 3F T7 and 10G (380 shell) cream of wheat. 15Y off hand.

THe Remington use to be a Texas or buffalo 12" barrel i cut it down to an 8" a few weeks ago and turned it into a regular 8" brass target. Best ive ever shot both of these 2 guns so far. I think it was like 38° here today

I moved the rear sight over a little on the remington tonight and lowered the front sight a little on the colt. Ill try this load again tomorrow after the adjustments

Well, thanks to all of your advise, I bought it. Now, I just have to figure out how to get it into the house, past the keeper of the check book,LOL. This is my second BP revolver. The other one is a stainless, Traditions, 44 cal, 1858 New Army model. I bought both, in .44, because that caliber is legal to use on deer, everywhere I hunt...........Robin

a nephew has one of those for years. it's a good shooter and no trouble at all.
he loads a .357 mag case of 3f under rb.

Well, Cabelas has me in hot water, LOL. They were supposed to send it via USPS and I made arrangements to shortstop the package notice, and have my neighbor pick it up, at the post office. It was delivered today via UPS. and TKOTCB signed for it. This is probably going to cost me for something with diamonds in it. She won't let me open the box until tomorrow........Robin

No problem -- get her fantasy confederate diamonds!

And what's TKOTCB? It sounds scary, like He Who Must Not Be Mentioned...

Just a gomer form Texas but I'm guessing "The King Of The Check Book"! I'm guessing DD is familiar with the Foxworthy rules of relationship:
"If Momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy"
If Momma ain't happy long enough, you'll be unhappy with only half your stuff!" :blah:

To ALL:

According to the Morris County (TX) Historical Committee (which is a part of the county government), there were about TWENTY-FIVE .44cal Colt Navy "copies" made sometime in mid-late 1862 by Cowan & Company of Daingerfield. = One wonders IF that is correct & what happened to those handguns, IF they were actually made?????

yours, satx

George H. Todd of Austin also cranked out a number of Colt's 'Navy' copies in the 1856-1861 period. His son left a couple letters around 1925 commenting on his father's work or revolvers and percussion caps made at his dad's shop. The highest know serial number is 272 and there's been a lot of comment from the 'authorities' that Todd probably started with number 100 or 200 or even 250. Another, more enlightened wit, pointed out that if Todd turned out no more than 1 week for the period from the expiration of Colt's patent in 1856 and the actual of a shooting war, a number approaching 300 isn't at all unrealistic. No one now knows how big Todd's shop was or how much talent he hired, but the fact that both octagonal and round barrels have been found speaks to his abilities.
