1851 navy...revolving rifle?

Hello friends, I'm hoping someone here may have some information regarding a most bizarre item. A pietta 1851 brass frame navy, with shoulder stock...and 25 inch barrel! I have yet to see any in the USA and the photo attached below is a deactivated one I found on a website in the UK. I know this is rare..but does anyone know why this model was made? Any clue as to if it ever released in the USA? Any information would be appreciated. Thank you.

Not with a barrel that long.
They do make a 12 inch, sometimes called a Buntline. The stock is sold separately. The one in your picture has the removable stock. AKA shoulder stock.

I know they where made for UK but why I can only guess unless offered in smooth bore to get round the UK law re barrel length minimums for smooth bore. That does make some sense it at least gave a novel shotgun if only about 410 but that wouldn't matter you still had the theatrical aspect going for it . Not a bad guess more I think about it .wouldn't make sense in the US but UK is UK.

I'm familiar with the stock and 12" barrel as I own one myself. I've put up some pictures before if that would interest you!

UK gun laws are indeed ridiculous, but I have never heard of smoothbore revolvers being owned by anyone of my acquaintance, and to issue this as a smoothbore wouldn't make sense in the UK either. Given that rifled BP guns are perfectly legal in the UK, there would seem to be little point in this, unless someone wanted to own it on a shotgun certificate, which is (slightly) easier to obtain than a firearms certificate.

As a point of interest, would a revolver - rifle, for the purposes of this forum, be considered an inline muzzleloader given the orientation of the hammer and the nipple?

Well a Mr Hoyt is very able to do such a thing , some on the forums like' Rickse 'seems fond of Mr Hoyts work ,not shure about the cylinders it would need a liner or new barrel to match them Good luck with that .

I doubt they where in any great demand but your right re the FAC V Shotgun cert .You voted with your feet Me too. Might not work if not 'inline' perhaps your thinking Pepper Box / Transistional's I once hunted Roos with pepper box only three nipples not block up .Roo's can laugh !

Interesting. He has made some custom 18" walker barrels before and I had asked if he'd ever consider special making an 18" navy barrel to which he said could not be done...but I suppose Pietta has surpassed that, even if smoothbore. Perhaps I'll speak to him again regarding this.

I don't know about a 25 inch barrel. Mine is the 12" in 44 caliber with a shoulder stock that is fun to shoot.

DEAR Sir Boniface While a UK FAC is an option for a rifled barrel it would only be a ' range use' not a' free certificate ' to hunt say rabbits . though the stupid" beer talkers" have contrived some MV /foot pound BS which rules out any BP rifle or bow for Deer including the 600 Nitro as it fails this criteria , Not that you'd need one, not many wild Elephants in the UK !. Whatever did Robin hood use ? .Maybe he had a back up 243 or 270 ?.
You left that poop behind so did I whereas in its smooth form your OK as its a shot gun cert job.at least for rabbits .maybe roosting' Woodies ' finest game bird in England Or so me & the head keeper of the late Duke of Westminster reckon .
