"Just think of how stupid the average person is, and then realize half of them are even stupider! George Carlin"

Per his own advice above,I wonder when he will realize just how average he really is!

He's got a lot of practical and theoretical knowledge blended in with the surly attitude. He either has no patience to explain or maybe just no capacity to educate.

Gentlemen

It's looking like I'll have to fire up the old "Delete Post" machine if this manure doesn't stop.

It is against the forum rules to attack another member.

I see nothing but attacks here and just one more and I'll either delete every post I consider as an attack or I'll do it the easy way and just delete the whole damn topic.

You've been warned.

Then why has Alden been allowed to do it forever in almost every thread he gets into? Where were you then?

The nearest I could find to proof that 2 f was the go to powder was found in firearms traps and tools of the Mountian men. Russel published data found using ballistic pendulum 1843. Halls .54 rifle, us 1835 and cadet 1830 musket was tested with 2 f and musket powder(1 f?). While the .40 'sporter' was tested with 3 f. Other test on that same table were done in the 1960s and stuck to the 3 small 2 big rule.... But did do testing with 2 f in .36.. So we would have to make an asumtion that 2 f and musket powder rule used in the military was a rule for civilian guns. :idunno: I don't recall info on grain size sent west, and thought the f size was used in the 18th cent is there much info on how much was sold where.
By the by I use both, and even have some make believe powder with a 'kicker' of real powder loaded before the p powder  .

My one concern in any discussion of loads and powder for 20 gauge has all to do with the really heavy loads some folks use in them for turkeys and such. I know all the talk about modern steels and such, but frankly the loads I see posted are what I use in a 10 gauge.

I'm pretty conservative by nature, and I like lots of margin for error when slapping a pipe full of powder and shot up next to my face. I've never fired a 20 gauge load heavier than 1 1/8 oz of shot and 80 grains of 1f or 70 grains of 2f, and don't plan to change that. My guns and my rules. For reference, my heavy 12 gauge load is 1 1/4 oz of shot with 90 grains of 1f or 80 grains of 2f, and my heavy 10 gauge load is 1 5/8 oz of shot topping 120 grains of 1f or 110 grains of 2f.

With round ball I'm using 3f in my 20's cuzz it shoots better, but a .610 RB weighs about 3/4 oz and I'm putting 90 grains of 3f under it.

Like I said, I'm a conservative and that affects my loads.

I think your on top of that. When I started I tried to make my front stuffer had to be loaded to the edge. I learned since then. 2 f or 3 f shoot your gun in its prefomance range, don't try and make a magnum out of it. A 1oz or so over 70grain charge will kill turkey just as dead as magnum 10 gage load. Smoothies ain't rifles, prb ain't a Minnie and no ml is a high powered modern rifle. None of its archery tackle, use your gun like its ment to use.

Well, I would probably take the time to quote both of my original ordnance manuals but why bother. They are the last word on gun powder of the mid 19th century. My last ( and only post on the subject)was not an actual verbatim quote, but a close copy. It fell on deaf ears!
I can understand Aldens feelings because I to share them.

I quit this forum once before due to the lack of moderation on people like Alden (on any other forum I've been on he'd have been banned long ago due to his arrogant attitude to others who disagree with him) and will now no longer post info - so BYE - dealing with stage 3 of the Big C I need to keep my stress level down and this constant arguing and the disrespect shown by this ONE character with his elitest attitude tain't doing it - I'm more than willing to agree to disagree with folks as long as they show respect but that tain't happening here....
and if this gets me kicked off so be it - I've been kicked out of better places before :cursing:

I highly recommend the lead box/ignore feature.

The problem with Moderating is we do this in our "off hours" and can't watch every minute. By the time someone reports a post it may be eight hours before I, or one of the other staff, log into our e-mail and see the complaint. A LOT can happen in eight hours.

Even if we spot it real time when visiting the site there is a tendency to leave hands off. I hate to be edited or deleted and I expect everyone does. It gets to be a "he started it" three-year-old tantrum and, frankly, I don't get paid enough to be a foster parent. I don't get paid at all. I didn't sign on to wipe noses and asses . . . even if with some members it can be accomplished with a single motion.

But if the census is we ban members, edit or just delete posts. That can happen, too. Then we spend our time deleting "Why was my post deleted by forum Nazis?" messages. It is a real pity if it had to come to that.

I apologize to Whiskey 1964. Hope his question was answered. Hope he's still with us. I'm locking this one down.
