My wife made me squirrel cookies for Christmas. Lol

I've been slowly but diligently working on my wife by throwing out clues as to me getting a squirrel dog. Every time I do, I get a mean look that would have put ole Davy Crockett a running away in fear. This calls for some major thought and strategic planning on my behalf. I don't give up easily. May the force be with me because I foresee a long and drawn out battle ahead. :)
I’m Praying for you Ed.
Will get the good Lord to soften her heart for a squirrel 🐿️ dog.

Remember, the thing women don't like about dogs is dog poo. Just sayin.
LOL. True, very true. If/when I get one, it’s not going to be an inside dog. Well, not much anyway.😁

Hammer has Feist on his mind, I have mountain cur on the brain. I close my eyes and all I see is mountain curs treeing squirrels.

Guys, I'm sure the majority of you if not all of you see that Fred is not the best at proper grammar, spelling etc... English was hard for me, possibly a fact in making me so defensive in like. I worked construction for the past 40 years. Proper English was not necessarily required. But it does make a difference. People look at you differently. I'm very experienced in my trade. That's why I was approached 25 years ago to start running crews. Now a days I must deal with Emails, Daily Reports, Written Plans of Action. God forbidd an injury report. Plus this computer crap. I had no other choice but nut up and handle it. If y'all would have saw how my English was 10 years ago.... well I'll just leave it at that.
I thank all of you , because joining the forum and building up the courage to Post has helped me. I will continue to improve, I k ow I will.

The damn thing I WILL NOT DO IS USE AN AI DEVICE TO WRITE FOR ME, ILL FACE HUMILIATION FIRST AND LEAN FROM IT..
I apologize for this but I can't take it any longer. I'd rather read someone's butchered up English from the heart than an AI generated whatever.. .

MERRY CHRISTMAS, HAPPY NEW YEAR!

may we all be blessed and and have some Successful Squirrel Hunts.
I understand ya just fine brother Fred. I don't mean to offend anyone here, but I don't think any of us would pass for Noble Laurents under even mild scrutiny. I know my dumb @$$ wouldn't🤣

I was watching an episode of Larry Smith Outdoors on Youtube this morning and he showed a squirrel skinning technique I have never seen before, and I've been around skinning squirrels since first following my Dad around in the woods 60 years ago.

We all know that skinning cold squirrels is a lot harder than skinning them as soon as you shoot them, especially on big Fox Squirrels. I've done the latter for years...cut off head and feet, skin, gut, wash it a bit with snow or a little water, and into a gallon ziplock. Works great, but it takes time from the hunt.

The method Larry demonstrated with a cold squirrel was to make a small incision on the back of the neck. He then uses an air compressor with a blow nozzle. He inserts the end of the nozzle into the little cut and lets the high air pressure literally separate the skin from the body! The skin blew up like a balloon separating from the body. Then he skins it with virtually no effort.

Just wondering if anyone here has ever personally seen or perhaps even used this method. Looks like it takes a lot of work out of skinning a cold squirrel.

Below is the video. Skinning discussion starts around 13:30.

I have not seen squirrels skinned that way but in my pre teen years when me and a clan of brother did some trapping, a guy used compressed air to skin coons.

Ed, years back I wanted a Mountain Cur or a Black Mouth Cur. Time went by and we got older so I let it go. I was very fortunate to have acquired Heny the Aussie Doddle, God I hate saying that. He took to treeing the squirrels on his own.
I hope ya get your Mountain Cur..
Great dogs for sure.
