I would like to know what is a typical 32 cal rifle load. Powder Shot Wads and patches. It looks like I might get a traditions Crocket and I would like to know what loads are used with that rifle.

In my Crockett .32 I shoot .310" balls w/.018" ticking patch with ballistol/water lube over 25-30gr of FFFG. Works pretty well.

I use .315 round ball, .019 denim patch preped with 6-1 water sol. oil an water, 20grns fffg goex.3 balls into 1 ragged hole at 20yds. You will get all kinds of replies with different load combos this seems to be a popular rifle.

My Crocketts shot good with 20-35 grs of Pyrodex P, a Crisco lubed, ticking patched .311 rd. ball and CCI #11 Magnum caps.

My Crockett is minute-of-rabbit-eye out to 25 yards or so with either Hornady .310 swaged balls or my own .311 homecast. Both are shot with .015 prelubed patches and 20 grains of Pyrodex P. Interestingly in this little caliber, the P is cleaner than the 3f real black I've tried. Sacrilage!

These guys gave ya some good advice...
AND you are gonna Love that little Crockett!
let us know more after you recieve it!
" Minute of Rabbit Eye"...I like that!!!

Brown Bear

I use to live in AK near Anchorage. I use to rabbit hunt down in the Keni near Skilack lake (mispelled). You could shoot 60 rabbits a day. What a country. If I could afford it I would move back up there.

It's sure hard to beat this place most of the time. Kind of challenging sometimes too, but you know that.

As you know the snowshoe hare population cycles wildly up and down. We're coming out of a low point and the hunting is getting really good again. Things are pretty cold right now and the snow is deep in some areas, but crusty and noisy too. Tough hunting sometimes, but always encouraging with lots of new tracks every day.

Once you get your Crockett you might be interested in the refinish I just did on mine. I browned it with LMF and refinished the stock with Tung oil after staining it. Pics are posted here in the Gun Builders section. Look at your stock real close. If you can see any faint glimmer of figure at all, it will really jump out with the stain and refinish.

BTW- The Crockett has one significant "personality" point. The breech is set up in such a way that it will grab and hold a cleaning patch unless you take precautions. #1 is get a long version of a jag for it rather than using a short one. #2 is don't use cleaning patches that are too big. I cut mine down to between 1/2 and 3/4 inches in diameter. #3 is don't run a dry patch all the way to the bottom. There are lots of threads on the Crockett here, and some of the older ones go into great detail about the stuck patch problem and its solutions.
