Hey all. Does anyone here use a .32cal for predators? I am almost done with a .32cal Verner Flintlock that I plan to use for both small game and some predators w/prb. For small game a light load works fine. I currently use a .32cal percussion. How large a load to I need to sight in for coyote or bobcat sized game to get humane kills? Thanks.

Just bumping this as I don't see it in the new forum. After doing so I see it.

Haven't had a chance to shoot a coyote yet with my 32, but I popped a couple of foxes with it last year. I can't say how they compare to coyotes, but dead is dead.

I shot both with my small game load, a PRB over 20 grains of 3f. Lung shots and they dropped without a fuss. Range was inside 30 yards, but I doubt if performance would have been so certain if they had been a lot further off.

There was a recent thread about coyotes and 32's, in which some folks advocated heavier charges (up to 40 grains as I recall) and conicals- 32 Maxiballs, if my memory continues to serve- for better long range performance. You might go digging for that thread (it may have been in the percussion section), because I recall several reports of coyote kills.

I think you would be very suprised on how capable a 32 caliber PRB is at taking all sorts of game out to say 75 yards. :hatsoff:

A stoked up .32 PRB is nothing to sneer at.

I think you will be impressed.

Somewhere around 30-32gr fff, she should change from BOOM to CRACK.

You should be go at that point.

Then go find yourself a "yote' and give em a wack.
