Zonie: Yes, you are correct. That is exxactly what i do. Takes some time, trigger asm. in & out many times, but it works & it gets the lock & trigger to work like I want them to. Some days it goes just right, some days just can't get it right..... those are the days I just get out a new blank & barrel & start the grunt work on a different one.......

I posted it here but they moved it to the general forum in the photo section.

I should have had a couple hundred rounds through mine by now but it's back at TVM to fix the 9# front trigger, and to fix the 14+11/16" LOP it arrived with, to the correct 14+1/4" LOP specified in the work order...hope they turn it around quickly.

:haha: Feelin' yer pain here, that must be frustrating - but I'm sure Matt will have that rifle back to you quickly. TVM's service is first rate.

Sure is a pretty rifle.

You have NO idea  ...to have finalized what I wanted, pulled together the various components, got them to TVM, got it built and in my hands...and it didn't fit.

I can't tell you the mental gymnastics I went through trying everything I could think of to be able to use it with that extra long LOP so I didn't have to send it back...just couldn't do it...it didn't fit even with just a T-shirt on much less when I put on my cold weather hunting clothes...so it HAD to go back.

They were very apologetic and immediately owned the responsibility...got their hands crossed on orders or something...UPS delivery arrived back at TVM in fine shape this week, said they'll look into next week.

I hope it'll be no more than a 30 day situation...

"You have NO idea"

Wait untill you get cocky when stating to build your own and don't measure twice and cut once :barf:

Oh, no question about it...if I had done it to myself, I would have immediately looked for a tall building with an open window on the top floor ...and its exactly why I'll work overtime at the job I do well and save my pennies to pay somebody else to build a rifle.

I don't know what the total implications are of shortening 1/2" LOP.

For example, is it simply that straight forward to shorten the butt by 1/2" then rework or make a new buttplate to fit the slightly thinner stock that exists 1/2" forward of where the butt plate used to be...and everything else is OK;

Or, does shortening the butt 1/2" change the whole set of dimensions / proportions / architecture relationships of the cheekpiece, its location, etc, etc. Its a gorgeous piece of maple that I hope survives in the end.

Yeah, I know it's a tough pill to swallow when you have to send your gun back to the maker for rework - even more so when it's the only flintlock you have.
Let's hope that your rifle doesn't visit it's birthplace near as often as mine did. Probably won't though, mine was a T/C and yours is not.

From trigger to middle of butt is 7/16" longer than what you ordered?

Yes, specified 14+1/4" on the invoice, but it arrived at 14+11/16's...(a 16th less than 14+3/4")...they have it back to correct it

Matt Avance at TVM called this afternoon with an update on the Virginia...was very apologetic about getting their hands crossed on the order specs and couldn't believe the LOP left the shop almost a half inch over spec...has already begun the corrective work with stock shortening and a new butt plate.

Wanted me to confirm about the finish...I had previously told him even though my work order called for aged steel & reddish stain, the browned steel & existing stain turned out great looking in its own right, so to minimize TVM's rework costs I had offered that he could just leave all that finish as it was.

He explained that he was having to refinish things anyway so he could easily refinish to the original reddish stain & aged steel specs no problem...he's on it full time all week to turn it around and get headed back this way as soon as he can.

Everybody has the occasional slip up...its what they do after discovering the slip up that shows their character...so far, this gets a 5 star rating from me
:hatsoff:

No, not since last week...and with this being a short holiday week I'm really not expecting to hear anything yet...

Well, to my pleasant surprise I just got the call from TVM that they shipped the Virginia back out today, scheduled delivery is Friday July 3rd.
Matt & Toni apologized so much I was getting embarrassed...seem like fine people.

Given that they also changed the stain color & metal finish to the original specs while they had it, I'll post a fresh set of photos after it arrives...and if all the planets get into alignment I should be trying it out Saturday.

Roundball,

Seems like a great way to celebrate independance...shooting your new flintlock.

Good luck with it.

Greg

If this wasn't meant to be I don't know what is. Enjoy, then share with us.

This saga is like watching "The Days of Our Lives". Real drama here. Man gets the itch for new love (new rifle), checking out all the meat markets and online dating services(gunmakers) hoping to find the perfect match everywhere, after being with his faithful wives (TCs) for decades. Finds a fine woman he can afford but on closer inspection, she needs some more work. Sends her off to the plastic surgeon who says he fixed it all up right, a little nip and tuck here and there, toned the skin just right, man waits eagerly to see how it tuened out, with thousands following every episode.

I trust it will have a happy ending. The fun thing about guns is they don't get jealous when you get excited about a new one!

Rich, you should have been a comedian !!

I sure hope that they didn't rush the redo on Rounball's Rifle and got it right this time. My jaw hit the floor when I saw the pictures he posted of it, as I knew it wasn't what he said he ordered. I can't believe they messed up the order with the WHOLE WORLD watching. This Rifle is going to be the Best or Worst advertising they could ever get.
