IMHO, a Forster type slug fired from a smoothbore barrel is little different from a minie ball, in that the hollow base "obturates" to provide a bit of a grip on the barrel walls for directional stability. There were some tests years ago that a slight rotation occurred, as I recall, but basically it was the tight fit that helped accuracy. I have shot lots of deer with the simple slugs, and been with many men who also have done so, at the time. Maybe four or five dozen, at least. I don't think any of them ever moved more than ten or twenty yards. Soft lead is very potent medicine. It's more gratification, IMHO, to shoot them with the PRB. Good smoke, ron in FL
 
The rifling you see on that Remington Slug is actually a way to decrease bore contact so it will squeeze thru your pappys model 12 with full choke so it wont split the barrel........I suppose wind might make it spin somewhat.................Bob
