My son and I went to Cabelas tonight and picked up 2 of these for a final cost of $99.99 each.

$149.99 on sale for $119.99 - $20 coupon = $99.99

Plus we are getting mailed to us 2 free display boxes for them...I have no idea what they look like but heck..their free.

Around here at the gun shows you cant even buy used ones for that price.

I am not too worried about being brass as we don't do that much BP shooting and I am not worried about shooting it loose.

The $20 coupon is only good for a few more days.

Yep, mine arrived today. I tried posting about the sale but the post was deleted because i had a link to Cabelas. Seems to be a pretty well put together revolver. I have read nearly all good reviews on them. Can't wait for the rain to stop so i can try it out.

My 1858 Rem (which I still can't actually have until Christmas :idunno: ) also came from Cabela's on sale. It was sale price at $189 plus a $20 off coupon for the steel frame revolver in .44. I'm also waiting on the presentation case, so if mine gets here before yours, I'll post a pic for you. Do the same if yours gets to you first. Have fun with it!

I will post a pic for sure.

We were a little surprised when the check out girl told us we get the display case as it was not mentioned anywhere that I saw. She also had no idea what it looked like.

I had to ask for it. When we went to the store, we had to bring a printout from their website to get the sale price. Included on that printout was a blurb about getting the free presentation case - just had to ask. However, they didn't have any in stock so it's getting mailed to me.

that's what my nephew has. a .38spcl case of 3F is a good target load and likely won't cause any damage with an rb. for warmer load use a .357 case as a measure. he has 100's of shots (maybe over 1000) through his and no discernible wear.

Thanks for the tip about the sale, coupon and free case. After seeing the price and reading the reviews I just ordered a pair, one for me and one for the wife.

The brass frame doesn't worry me since I only load to the point of accuracy, not full capacity. If I want more recoil, I can always load the Ruger Old Army to the limit.

As I get older I'm more and more attracted to BP for the relaxed pace and for economy. Any time I can add to the BP arsenal at such a good price is helpful.

Does anyone know if .457 round ball will work in these? My other 44s use that size.

Jeff

good luck with it. I ordered one when i was 14-15 and the first one fell apart in my hand one evening. Cabelas send me 3 replacements before they let me pick out something else.

My case came today. I don't have pics of it with the pistol in it, but here are couple of pics of what it looks like. It's a nice blonde color of maybe white oak, poplar, or dense pine. I'm not sure. It's got a nice thick green velveteen lining that is well cushioned. There's no specific cutout for a gun, flask, or other stuff but it'll be a nice way to show off your pistol.

That is the case they sell for $20 or so, pretty sweet deal for a freebie.

The upside to not being a custom fit case is that you can use it to display any collectible, such as old ammo, arrowheads, knifes etc.

As far as falling apart in your hand???...well time will tell I guess. Enough people have ordered these that I would think there is going to be a lot of reviews posted.

On that same note, Mine did need almost all the screws tightened a bit right out of the box, but I see no reason why it shouldn't hold up to mild target shooting.

This is a nice weapon, especially for the price. It is a good shooting pistol. I prefer .451 balls to .454. #11 caps are recommended and work fine although many people tout #10. The display case is large and surprisingly nice. You'll note in the Cabela's special instruction insert which comes with the pistol a recommended 25 grain BP maximum. The Pietta instruction manual says just 15 grains! I split the difference at 20 and the gun responds quite well. I doubt 25 could be a problem.

Good shooting

Well i shot mine some today and i must say, it is a Shooter. First shot out of it was about 1/2" outside my 1" aiming point, at 11 o'clock. nest shot was high but the third was in the black. I think with a bit of trigger work and some more time with it this is going to be a good shooter. Load was 27gr 3f Goex, a fiber Wonder Wad, and a home cast .454 ball. Range was 20 yds. resting my arms over the hood of my Bronco II.

#10's are likely what you should use. try a tin to check if they fit I'll bet they will and snug is better.

Actually i forgot to mention the caps didn't i. I was surprised that the #11 CCI caps i use fit the nipples fine. No blowing off and tying up the action. I had already ordered a pack of 6 Uncle Mikes replacement nipples for #11 caps and installed them after i got home and cleaned the revolver.

A Bronco II? I haven't seen one of those in 20 years. Glad to hear you new pistol is a shooter.

Don

Yep, this one is 20 years old. Runs good though. And the revolver shoots good too. I like the feel of the '51 Navy. They point shoot real well.

Just FYI for those placing orders. The revolvers shipped yesterday but the display cases are backordered. Cabelas expects them around January 10. Also, the shipping instructions for the revolvers specify getting an adult signature for the UPS guy. Not a problem since I work from the house but it could effect others. Wish there was a Cabelas within sane driving distance.

Just read the post about the $99 cabelas 1851 Confed Navy and the free case.

Where is the information on the free case? I can't see anything on the website that mentions a free presentation case.

Thanks
