What's the inference, fellas? Too ornate? I think, from what our mutual friend says, he is building it in a way that he wil be proud of it and I won't just like it, I'll cherish it and create a family heirloom out of it. Son is chomping at the bit to shoot it. He'll get to shoot it with the builder before I will.

Check out the template for the patch box. I've done a little research. There were rifles for infantry, for officers, and for nobility or high ranking officials. I'll consider myself nobility for the purposes here. Hand carved German silver, hand-carved inlays, he builds them his way and don't get in the way.

Where did you get this info? Patchboxes had nothing to do with the things you noted. Completely wrong. Also, german silver wasn't used until the 1840s or 50s. I certainly won't get in his way. LOL.

Iron mounted on a cherry stock. The beauty of the rifle will be in its lines and the wood. Personally not a fan of a lot of bling on a rifle.

mikebrooksflintlocks.com will give you a small sampling of what I do/did. Just short of 400 guns total. I might just get past 400 yet though!

Wow! Your work is spectacular too. Small sampling is not emough. if I am anywhere near New Liberty in the future, I'll bring it over. I've been back and forth on I-80 four times in the last six years. I will never travel long distance by car again without it.

If I ever get there! My body started to fall apart on a regular basis in 2015 , production has been way down since then. Only built 3 in 2017. Haven't made one in a year now. Hopefully I'll get back at it this summer. Depends how the fish are biting.

The man obviously does great work but the asymmetry of the patch box would drive me crazy. Also I would say it’s almost sighted in, could move that group a little to the left.
