I made a quick box for my Pietta Remington reproduction.

See it on flickr

Do not look too closely at those dovetails; they're a bit sloppy but they hold everything together. That is toolbox foam that I hollowed out for the pistol.

I plan for this to fit into a larger range box that is yet to be built.

Material is cherry finished with paste wax.

Now just lay some velvet in it..What did you use to cut the foam? I did one for a double derringer but already had the box. That one looks fine to me.

That box is begging for a second gun to hold. So you might as well go ahead and get another.
get a colt and when you get to the range you can spend the first ten minutes trying to decide which one to shoot first :hatsoff:

Thanks. That foam is called Kaizen foam sold by FastCap.com. You cut the outline with a utility knife and peel the cavity out with your fingers. Kaizen foam is made up of many layers about 1/8" thick and they separate pretty easily.

I like the box. As far as dovetails, I bought dovetail jigs for my router 30 years ago and still haven't tried them. Thanks for the name of that foam, I can think of thousands of uses for it now that I know where to get it..
