As I have stateda couple of times I have a Patterson and enjoy carrying it and shooting it. I get get lots of attention when I take it to a civ war event. Because of that hidden trigger and the unusal way it loads. (I use a loading stand for shooting and that lever for show/demos).
If you use the independant laoding tool that comes with a patterson buy a couple of spares I have had it snap at the point of the threads that uncovers the nipple pin on one of mine.

There is a nice photo of an original with the loading lever on page 143 of Firearms of the American West 1803-1865...

I recently picked up at Barnes & Noble "COLT Single action from Patersons to peacemakers" By Dennis Adler. From Page 18 to page 56 it's all about the Paterson pistol from the No.1 thru the No. 5. There is at least 2 pictures of of the revolver on each page. I bought this book in the bargain section for less than 20 bucks US.
ohh the publisher is Chartwell Books, Inc.
Lots of info on all the revolvers along with history. I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Thanks for the review. I'll have to look for that book sometime when I'm off of the "owl shift"...

I finally got a belt and holster done for Lil' Lillie. Yep! That's who she has become. Anyways, here is a picture of her wearing her holster and belt.

Cooner this is Chris Freds oldst, I took some books real old ones he had one was by Elmer Kieth, or I'm close with the name, and something that had run here about only load 5 shots in a 6 shooter! So only put 4 in that five shooter. This Elmer guy had some funny stuff to say about loadeding one less like the Colt company ran extra holes just for the heck of it, or so the could charge more money for the extra hole, bet you wouldn't catch a Texas Ranger with 4 shots in a 5 shooter. Anyway he was funny today in the hospital, but as long as I can think back about 30 years even on a horse dad always loaded 6 and and as Colt made them the main spring kept the hammer down between 2 caps do to the heavy spring. Just wanted to say real nice looking rig you have. Chris

Thanks for good advice, Chris. Tell yer dad,"Howdy"! These Patersons don't have a pin or a hammer notch between the nipples. I load 4 on this one. If I am standing at the range and shooting I load all five.

Thanks for the good word on the rig.

Cooner

I let a thick strip of leather lay on a cap and tied it off to the tg on my Navy Colt a few times and carried it with all six loaded, tried it tied to the holster to but had to start cocking as the gun was drawn to keep from letting the hammer slip off onto the cap, just always seemed a shame to have a hole going to waste, things got so much easier as I went farther back in time with my choice of guns :shocked2:
