Interesting you should ask that. I've had the sight for a year and a half. Since this recent post, I looked at the shim that was supplied with the sight. The shim is at too much of an angle to properly align the sight. Why? As I inspected the sight, I discovered that the sight is a Lyman 57SML, not a Lyman 57GPR. The SML is for the Trade rifle. What I did since then is make a brass shim which raised the sight about 1/8". I really don't know the dimensional difference between the 57GPR and the 57SML, but I shimmed it up anyway.

OK. I don't know the dif. either. I bought one years ago & found out when I bought it, I bought the wrong one. I called Lyman & they sent me the screws & the long tapered shim for it & all worked well. Looking at your photo, it didn't appear to have the shim, but photos are misleading & I couldn't remember how thick it was as sold that rifle long ago.

Good Luck with it. I had really good accuracy with mine.

Here we are 2 1/2 months later. I couldn't stand the part of the exposed stock in front of the leather butt cover so I added some braided leather shoe lace to give it a "goodenuff" traditional appearance.
I took it to the range and was very pleased with the new length of pull. My face lays down right where my eyes should be in relation to the sights.
Very happy with the results. I'm sighting in at 50 yards...so far so good. Looking forward to doing it again.
