Another name for #40 drill?

The Jo-ann's fabric close to me closed, darn it! I knew where the drill cloth was and it was labeled as such and life was good.

Today the next closest to me had no idea what I was talking about, had no idea what drill cloth was, but directed me to where they kept their muslin cloth but I did not have my calipers with me so all I did was keep pulling the bolts out until I got frustrated and left.

Is there another name that #40 drill cloth goes under at Jo-Anns?

I don't know about #40 drill cloth. Is that the same as pillow ticking? Usually a few different bolts of that in hobby or fabric stores. I also just pick out what I need by caliper measurement. .016-.017" using a light touch.

They have a max 2 yards @ $4/yd available for shipping on their site. Unbleached Drill Fabric by Happy Value if you can't find it locally, it shows out of stock in the Cincinnati area stores but it might help you find some nearby.

Ask for the utility cloth.

Drill cloth has a tighter weave than ticking.

To measure cloth you need a micrometer and turn the barrel to compress the cloth. Calipers will not work.

I've been trying g to order Drillcloth from. JoAnns for moths. I watch fort to come back instock I place my order and it goes unfilled. I got emails showing it was in stock when it was unavailable for order. Last time it was in stock I ordered 5 yards as the minimum order is 2. They were unable to fill my order. This has been goi g on for 6 to 8 weeks if not longer. Micheal and Hobby Lobby do t even know what drill cloth is when I ask them at my local stores.

All I have ever used is dial or digital calipers and they work just fine as long as you use consistent pressure.
Best thing to do is to buy a couple of yards of various thicknesses. Having a variety at home will pay off down the road. As long as you use some sort of tight weave 100% COTTON you will be okay. Pocket drill material and pillow/mattress ticking is good, but not the only thing that will work.
I bought an assortment of 10 or more kinds and thicknesses of patching fabric 30 years ago and am still using it. Some is striped, some has flower patterns, etc.
