Yeah, having a dry climate is a real advantage when it comes to gun care.

Wiping your bore between shots needn't be a dreaded thing. I keep a small jar of damp wiping patches siting on the loading bench. After each shot, I run a damp patch down the bore and out in one single smooth stroke. No pumping. Quick and easy and I am ready to load. Keeping your bore exactly the same from shot to shot helps in your accuracy. It is the way Dutch Schoultz teaches in his "Muzzleloading Accuracy System" www.blackpowderrifleaccuracy.com If you don't have a copy, you will need to order pretty quickly because Dutch is giving serious thought to quitting selling his system.

Wiping your bore between shots is important when shooting at the bench in a match where points count but I can understand not wanting to do it when you are hunting. It can be done in a hunting situation by simply sticking a dry patch in your mouth and then using it to wipe your bore after you fire and before re-loading.

One problem they overlooked was cast iron frying pans have a porous surface that oil can penetrate. "Steel does not have a porous surface."

I respectively disagree. Steel is much less porous than iron.
