Looking for a cool project? Here’s an antique 18th century brass cannon barrel pistol in need of someone to bring her back to life.
It looks very familiar to a pistol I saw in the North Carolina History Museum - not exact, but very similar in it’s style and simplicity. (photo of that for reference). There’s a barrel from an even earlier pistol (1600s) in the same museum too, but not sure if this one is quite that old.
I’m not sure exactly when or where it was made, but considering the lack of markings, I’m assuming it’s american. The only markings I’ve seen are an engraved “T” on the buttplate.
The trigger guard appears to be sheet brass and is unfortunately missing the back piece. There’s some simple decorative carvings around the furniture throughout the stock.
This pistol has an iron breech and the barrel appears to be rifled (I’m unsure if that was done when it was manufactured or later on. There’s no internals in the lock, but the lock plate is original and fits tightly. The lock also appears to be of an earlier type, with internal screws for the frizzen and battery spring.
The barrel is 4 3/4 in, overall length is 9 ½ in.
I’m happy to provide any additional pictures or information. I’d love to see this get restored by someone who has the time and skills to do so.
Asking $325 OBO.
