I've seen photographs of several jaegers with bone or horn muzzle caps and ram rod tips as well as numerous bone, antler, and ivory inlays. I'm curious if anyone has ever seen other furniture made from these materials? At one point I believe I saw a rifle or fowler with ivory or bone ramrod thimbles and I've begun carving some for a future project. Anyone have any info or photos of any weapons with these features?

Here are pictures of my Jaeger, The patch box cover is fossilized ivory and the nosecap is antler from a Red Stag I picked up in Scotland. I have an Original Jaeger that has a horn nosecap, and a bronze patchbox cover, I don't have any good pics of that one.

Those materials can be beautiful. But they can be delicate. My Jaeger has an ebony nosecap and an ivory front sight blade.
When it comes to custom presentation grade firearms, you cannot accept what is on them as any kind of norm. Many will never be fired but kept as display pieces only.

What are the distinguishing characteristics of a Jeager? Is it the straighter shotgun look of the buttstock? Or the length? The reason I'm asking, I bought a rifle two days ago, and can't figure out, the style. I don't have any pictures to post. It has several inlays, but all are brass.

I have a plains rifle with horn nose cap.

That is some beautiful features on flintlock75's rifle. Hope to see some more pictures.

That is indeed gorgeous and along the lines of what I am looking for. I can't for the life of me remember where I saw the photo of the ramrod thimbles, and I believe I saw one with a composite silver and ivory side plate as well. Hopefully some more will pop up!

On these Jaeger threads I always repeat my offer. I have a 1970s copy of an American Rifleman article about Jaegers. Great article loaded with pics and valuable information from a collector. I will send by e-mail to anyone that asks.

I sent you an email, sir. That is a very kind offer and one that I certainly would like to take you up on. Thank you very much.
