Anyone Know much about this R. Nesbitt 1981.30-.32 cal Barrel? came in kit.

Hello from Spokane, Wa. I'm so very new to BP but my son and I would like to get into it. Hence he purchased a BP used rifle from the local gun shop. So in talking to my buddy about it he mentioned that he had a BP flintlock rifle kit that he didn't plan on ever building and said I could have it. So after a month of so he finally came buy and I gave him all my leftover radio control stuff for the BP rifle kit. The kit was just a stock, barrel taped to stock, and zip loc bag of the other parts that he had. I can include photo's later if needed, however I was just wondering if anyone had herd of or seen a small caliber flintlock rifle with a barrel that says R Nesbitt 1981 on it? There has been no flash hole drilled and tapped, and the flash pan and such is missing. There were 2 complete lock's in the bag as well as trigger, trigger guard, wedge pin to hold barrel to stock, a long peice of steel that is concave on one side. I think it's for mounting under the barrel for the ramrod. I may be willing to trade this "kit" to someone for either a complete kit of lesser value, or complete used rifle of any cal. I'm not set up to actually finish this flintlock kit as there are a lot of tools needed to complete. I think that is why my buddy never messed with the kit. Any Ideas or offers. I just uploaded some photos of what all I have that I got as the "kit". So I'll await any constructive comments. I don't have the necessary tools nor the knowhow to properly finish this kit in order to do it justice. What I'm looking for is a good used .50cal BP rifle, or a cap and ball revolver. I was looking at the ones that Cabela's sells. Like their 1858 Navy or Army colt. They are only around $250. Which is about the same amount for a basic BP rifle. I'm talking a low end as I'm only going to shoot either of these once or twice a year.

That kit looks partially there with good components. No clue on the barrel but it seems other than a flash hole there’s not a lot more to do. If I were closer I’d trade you a 1860 Colt army like you wanted. I think you’ll have no problems trading that off for what you want!

I found a sight that sells the drill and tap for the appropriate size barrel, as well as the needed insert. Just haven't contacted them as the page was from 2018. So I can imagine prices have increased if their still in business. I'd take your trade in a second.. thanks for the kind comment.

Worst case scenario, post it up in the classifieds when you’re able and I bet someone would buy those parts off you. If I were still in the PNW I’d think about hitting White’s Boots in Spokane and making a trade with you while I was there. One of those locks looks for sure like something Dixie Gun Works used to sell, probably worth $100 ea I’d imagine and the stock possibly around the same. Again, no clue on the barrel though.

Gee Griz, perhaps a different approach as to posting would be better, (kind of came across a bit gruff) since this is a new guy. (And we always welcome new guys) Some informational in-put as to where to post such things go a long way. No need to make him think we are a bunch of kratchey old farts. Everyone complains about the hobby not attracting new blood, sometimes we need to think before we post. Looks to me like BPflint went about it in the right way. How about leaving those type of things to the moderators?

Hi and welcome from northern New Mexico! I wouldn't think you'd have a lot of trouble selling your kit on this site. There is a section on the forum for selling firearms. A lot of stuff changes hands there. If you were to post your photos and description there, you might be surprised at the response.

I've been here in Spokane all my life so know where White's boots are located. Your right on the money on the shiny lock. It says "Dixie Gunworks" and Italy on the inner side and "Lashmore Warranted" I think on the front face. The stock is pretty heavy so I'm guessing maple? It has a nice grain and no bad dings. The but plate is installed and nothing else has been done other then what the photos shoe. I think a couple local of folks are interested in a trade for it. I'm not set up to build, and if I can turn this into a working rifle I'd be happy. I would still like to figure out more about the "R Nesbitt 1981" barrel.

Thanks for those kind words. As this is the introduction thread and being brand new to the forum I thought my post was mostly just fine. Being brand new to BP, I thought I'd introduce myself and tell what I have. I may want to complete the rifle, however it would probally be best for me to trade it to someone that knows what their doing. Also I was hoping that someone out there would have some info as to what I have. I couldn't find any info about the R Nesbitt barrel, but did find limited info that there was a R Nesbitt gunsmith back South East US. So was hoping somebody might know what kind of kit this was. Thanks again for being understanding to a New Guy.. P.S. I was intending on listing in the classifieds if I couldn't find out any info. Also was just putting feeler out there if anyone was wanting to trade.

Thanks for your suggestion. At the time I posted this , I wasn't specifically looking to sell/trade, but was hoping someone knew or had some info on the barrel and possibly who's kit this was. If I couldn't find any info about the kit then I was going to do some research into what it would take/cost to build it. With that said, if I determined I was getting in over my head, u was going to sell/trade it and post in the classifieds.
With all that said, it's amazing how much push back I've encountered due to my one mishap of saying that I might be interested is parting with this kit in the same post where I said I was new to the forum, as well as new to BP in general. For those whoom feel that I was wrong to write my post as I did, I'd like to apologize.

Welcome to our little corner of the internet, the place where no matter what you say someone will get their panties in a wad.
Griz is correct, however gruff he sounded, compared to a Griz in the wild ours is a Teddy Bear.
Your local club is your best bet, they’ll get you set up and shooting real quick, either with something new or a deal on assembling what you have.
I’ll ask the cranky old farts in my club if they’ve heard of R Nesbitt tomorrow.
