I built several guns back in the 70's with a touch hole coned from the outside. Not all the way, leaving just a thin section by the bore but coned about half the thickness of the barrel then a 1/16th hole into the bore. The last several rifles have used a White Lightning liner. To be truthful, I can't tell the difference in ignition speed and I'll bet most can't either. Look up Larry Pletcher's experiments on flintlock ignition speed using computer activated fast speed cameras and you might get your eyes opened as to just how fast the human mind can react to the speed of ignition.
