A couple years back I got a Pedersoli .54 Flinter and it was built along the Hawkins line but I wanted a full stock so I found in a pawn shop an Invest arms .54 caplock kit for $25.00 (shop owner wanted it gone) the barrel and lock was messed up and rusted bad but the stock was good so I did some work and extended the foregrip added another channel for another wedge pin,I also browned the barrel and lock. Some guys thought it was a Jeager. I get good results with patched round ball as well as minnie ball with a 65gr charge. I use the period manual of arms which show priming 1st fitting the stall then loading.

I have had a chance to shoot this rifle now and I have to say for a used factory rifle I’m really pleased with it. I was concerned with the quick twist of the rifling but I’ve had no problems with patched round balls. I have shot some lead bullets through it too and while they group differently from the balls they do group well. I guess I have to decide what I will want to shoot and make the front sight and rear notch correct for that loading.

This is my first rifle that I have both a percussion lock and a flint lock for. It will be interesting to see if I shoot the same size groups with each lock.
