Kiwi Nuetral shoe polish works great, rub it on and let it set then buff it out.

I don't know about that a number of years ago I rebarreled a flinter to shoot at Friendship. Just got the barrel mounted sighted in and away I went. After about a week of shooting I had a very pretty brown patina. Maybe that's what they call Friendship Patina?

If your looking to start with a nice flat gray color use naval jelly .
Rinse with water... heat to dry ....apply oil or wax...
