On my 1859 Sharps I have a piece of antenna in my range box and blow through the nipple before opening the breech.
Not that that has anything to do with anything, but if you shoot percussion there are other ways of getting air flow down the barrel.

Ditto.

To follow Mule Brain, would you be blowing down the barrel if you had not read it some place?

Well you could lock it now, we have done it to death, but it’s winter wet and cold and grumpy old men need something to fuss over.
And one added benefit Trump and Biden both have no position on it. So , argue till our button pushing fingers are sore, no one can get political 😊
come now Tenngun, everyone knows that Brandon blows!

devil made me do it!

How long do you have to blow down the barrel to displace the atmosphere in the barrel thru the diameter of the tiny hole in the nipple and how many times do you have to displace the atmosphere to soften the fouling?

Am wondering.

Never done it, never seen anyone do it. But my ML shooting circle of friends is very small. I just let it sit a couple minutes before reloading. Always figured a still hot BP ember would stay hot about as long as a hot spark/small ember from a campfire. Not very long. And many times I'll swab the barrel after the shot anyway. (I know, gasp!) 🤣
