Bought a kibler smr

I’ve been waiting for a quick ship Woodsrunner that I like but ended up getting a .45 SMR. It has a bark inclusion on the comb and a stain but really fantastic curl. I haven’t decide if I’m going to patch the hole with maple or just fill it with brown ca glue or epoxy. I’m leaning towards the patch then finishing it dark with aquafortis and tannic acid. Everyone says the SMR is one of the fastest most accurate flintlocks out there, I couldn’t pass it up.

Whatever you decide to do, it will be a beautiful long rifle in a great caliber.

I looked at that one and was tempted but in the end I'm thinking 40 cal. I think you will end up with a nice rifle. Gonna have character.

I agree, the inclusion doesn’t bother me at all. I enjoy figuring out how to deal with it.

Did mine in .36. Great shooting rifle. Judging from your Fowlers, you’ll build a beautiful rifle.

I have an SMR in .32 and its a great shooter. Personally I would leave it as is and fill the inclusion with something clear so as to retain its character but stabilize it for use. Its a character of the wood and something that makes the rifle unique but in the end it's yours to make it how you want and it will still be unique. Pics of the build are almost mandatory and finished pics are mandatory on here. LOL.

Aqua fortis would stabilize this hole I think. Heat and then apply some thung oil inside. Correct me if I'm wrong...

That inclusion will give your stock some real character. Just stabilize the area with your finish. I have 2 .45’s and 1 .36 SMRs. Love them all.
