This may have been discussed to death, but is there really only one maker (Pedersoli) of a good quality Brown Bess? I've had my eye on buying one, of course, but the more I research and ask individuals, the more frustrated that I get. So I thought I would throw it out there to the forum to discuss (probably again). And also ask, why isn't any American company making good quality reproductions, when there seems to be a need?!?

Hoffman reproductions makes them out of indian or US parts supposedly. I asked for a build and was told he was too backed up to even let me put a deposit down and get in line.

Militia House claims to make one in US with US parts.

The Pedersoli Brown Bess is a Second Model or the Short Land Pattern. The Short Land Pattern was only used by the British Regular Army during the American War of Independence. While the Pedersoli is a reasonably high quality, it is not an accurate reproduction of the Second Model it is supposed to represent. It is accepted for Rev War reenacting.

@Jason Swain, for what purpose are you planning to use the Brown Bess?

This leaves us with the Indian manufactured muskets or Militia House. Of course, there are the parts sets from the Rifle Shoppe that may or may not be in stock.

I use a Long Land Pattern Musket manufactured in India and distributed by Loyalist Arms. It has been a reliable musket and suitable for my F&I War reenacting. Loyalist Arms probably has the greatest selection of patterns to choose from and the best availability.

Now we will begin the endless defamation of the India manufactured muskets. There are flaws in these muskets, but not as close to the misinformation that is to follow.
