Thats very kind of you to say , I appreciate it . It’s not false modesty or any of that manure I just want Walt to know .... It may be a long drawn out process but anyone good with their hands can make a basic trade gun . A golden age era long rifle ? No .... Well , I couldnt anyway ....I'd hate for him.not to try if he really wanted to build one
If I can build one, anyone can. With your help of course.

Getting the mortices back , refined and slimmed ...defined ....dont look too bad . Once both sides close to done then I can start to inlet thumb piece .....start pics first , here's still in the rough .....

Rob, with mine being a 1740’s gun, I’m I correct to have the slight relief on my mortises? Or should I blend them directly in?
This gun is 1740- 1750 period too . I would blend them in myself but ...I dont know if you can down . Those lines carved in I saw . I was wondering . might just want to stick with that ....your call bud

LOL ....quit ! If I could hold it and look at it I could give an honest opinin one way or the other , i really can't from the pics
I really do study your photos and “For Trade & Treaty” and “Colonial Frontier Guns”, but I guess I get into information overload or it just goes over my head!! Probably best for me to head back home and let it rest a few days.

A fine job , so far. Luck to ya. Bet you done a couple these before.?? Fess up .. I know I don't have the energy to make time to build much any more. Age takes it's tole. Been tryin' to work on a smooth rifle since the aftermath of covid a year ago. It keeps me going. ........oldwood

Rob just got back from the Tennessee show in Knoxville. Their were three original trade guns. Which was very interesting to handle. Quite interesting because I imagined them as a little bulky by the pictures in books. They were very slim indeed. Also learned that a few were even rifled. Now that surprised me..

And ....thumb plate ....mostly done :)
