The lock plate is way too deep so ...lock mortice has to come down ...careful as this throws off the symmetry of the mortices AND , even worse , the forearm must be taken down in front of lock mortice and its gettin damn thin now !! Then ! The SP mortice has to match !! AND ! That mortice is WAY too wide around the lock up front...AND !! Dont forget that ramrod channel ! You go through it in the forearm or under the mortice ....you can throw that stock away !!

Ok , take everything forward of mortices to final with blocked sand paper now ...Take out tool marks and any high spots with course ,40 grit and 60 ....be careful with edges . dont make em too thin or go through them ! Go slow and look often ....

I got the nose down close to final so ...time for that dreaded nose band .... I got it in this evening but I'll post a cleaned up pic of it tomorrow ... What a pain BUT ! Done .... So ... I have a BIT more form sanding on the forearm but then after that ...I'm down to final sand on the whole gun ! This thing has really drug on ! Probably just seems that way working on three guns at once ! LOL .... So sand , final sand , engrave side plate and thumb plate , then finish !! Then stamp and rings on barrel and put on frontbblade , then start browning the barrel .....

So what is the rule if there is one on how far from the muzzle to put the front blade and how do you hold it in position when soldering it on with out needing three hands .And what size is it approximately, thickness width and high.👍I thinks that’s it.

I'm sure everyone is different but I hate when they are close to the muzzle
I think they look ignorant and feel weird when loading ... I always guesstimate the under cut st the end of the stock then back about an inch or more I put the lug , mark barrel , then from that lug ....just a bit in front of it the sight blade and just behind the lug the RR pipe ... The barrel is always horizontal and secured tight , and a piece of plate under the muzzle to catch the sight when it falls , it always does ! LOL ...wire the lug on tight ,its already on ....wire wheel the spot where the blade will go ,flux the spot and bade of the sight t then lay the blade on the spot and start heating the barrel around the sight spot , always moving , try and stay off the spot .... as the spot is heating upnkeep trying the solder , touching it at the bade at the sight , I usually have to flux the bottom.of the sight again , needle nose pliers ....as its heating keep touch solder at base , it will eventually suvk the solder under the sight base , it'll be very shiney silver ....I use the needle nose or an awl and push the sight close to center , I go down to the breech and look down the barrel and see if its centered , it never is , then go down to the muzzle and correct it , then back to the breech and look again .....again and again till its just right . The height I like to be .170 ...
I cant remember the thickness , I use left overs s I cut off of my cast serpent sifeplate s . With each side plate I get 3 sight blades of brass . If you want one holler at me .

.....soldering ....in action . If the f$#@%ers will download .... .080-.100 thick .... This one is .200 high ....to be trimmed and shaped to final later. I roughed shaped it and made bottom flat on grinder before starting the solder process .....
