Got em in and pinned ..... not slab off one side with the saw and start roughin in the forestock .....rasp work

Now ..... The entire stock is " in the rough " ...she's in her basic shape but will be slimmed up and refined , slowly, painstakingly .... from now on

Feels good to get it to the point of a working gun . I'd like to shoot it tomorrow . ...but got a LOT of mowing to do before Saturday ....we'll see. Rain and cold all weekend and Monday so SHOULD be a productive weekend being stuck in the gun shop during the rain ....try to get the side plate finished and inlet , thumb plate inlet and in and the gun taken to final shape or at least close to it ... Be great to be putting the finish on it before next weekend or at the latest next weekend .... would be fine . Gotta get a Fusil de chasse started soon !! A fella in Missouri needs one !!

Mark your boundaries . No body wants a thick trade gun , esp. these early ones ,but ....better a little thick then to accidentally rasp down into the ramrod channel ....then the stock is kindling for the fire ...

For TDM ....how I trim the mortices to my lines .... 2nd pic. Bottom line done .....3rd and 4 ,pic . top line done ....

And done ..... Gotta go get firewood in , supposed to get down in the 20s tonight !! Crazy ! Weighed the gun too ... Its 5.80 pds. right now and more wood has to be removed so its gonna be good ....

I sure wish I would have gotten into this smoothbore game a little earlier in life cause I’d have one in 20 gauge and maybe by my own hands.some beautiful work being done hear by some talented hands for sure.

.just holler ....I'll walk you through it . Greatest builder I've ever known is Ken Netting ..He was telling me the other day how he has slowed down because of old age , he's 80 now . He said he used to make 24 to 26 gunsca years now all he can make is 14 to 16 a year .....I've never been able to make 10 a year ! Let me know ! Would love to help ya .....and this is really basic work ,I'm not a great builder . I can make a good , dependable and historically accurate smoothbore but ....its nothing special compared to some really good makers / builders out there .

Thats very kind of you to say , I appreciate it . Its not false modesty or any of that manure I just want Walt to know .... It may be a long drawn out process but anyone good with their hands can make a basic trade gun . A golden age era long rifle ? No .... Well , I couldnt anyway ....I'd hate for him.not to try if he really wanted to build one
