Here is something to consider when you are watching the You Tube videos. I just finished riveting the barrel rib to the barrel on the gun I am working on now. I got video showing every step and explaining what I am doing in lots of detail. It will be posted on You Tube. But here is the catch. This was the first time that I have ever done it. That's right. My first time doing it I made a video teaching how to do it. I did a really good of sounding like I knew what I was doing! It turned out very good so it is all good information in there.
Project I am working on now is a 4 bore rifle. I have never built one of these before. I have never built a half stock rifle before. This one is a bit complicated. There are still a few things on it that I have not figured out yet. I am figuring things out as I am making the video on how to do it. Everyone seems to think that you are an expert on something if you make a video about it. That is not the case!!! In an upcoming video I spend a good amount of time working on a part. When it is finished I scrap it and make a new from one scratch.
When you watch any You Tube videos about how to do something you always have to be asking yourself if you can think of a better way to do it. There are several ways to do every part of building a gun. I am only showing the way that I am doing it. I don't know everything about this and there may be some other way that would work better for you. Never rely on a single source of information. Watch the Kibler and Duelist videos. Also watch Homemade History. All of us are doing things in different ways and using different tools. We all have different ways of presenting the information.
