We’ll she definitely looks a little rough. What do you think happened?
Lots of factors ...Wood was junk to begin with , I dont like to use good stock blanks when the gun is for me , just use some junk wood and best I can ...closer I got to final the worse the wood looked but ... Is what it is . The dye ...just depends on the wood , even the same species it can be different colors , I wanted a brown not a red but it will tone down a bit after I scrub her but sure dont like it . I'll patine the hell outta it so it could / should look lots different tomorrow , then scrub and paste wax and buff .... It'll still kill critters though ... meh

Oh wow.
Can you refinish it?
(Put away canned shellac and mix your own. I see the de-waxed flakes from Shellac Shack. You will never have issues.)
Oh no ... too much time in it now . ..ain't gonna do it again , I have way too much work to do . I should have used walnut but I dont have enough walnut stocks , dont want to waste one on me . Its so ugly I should be able to keep this one ! LMAO !!! :D

That stuff sounds interesting
You can mix it as thick or thin as you like. I mix mine thin so it can be wiped on with a rag. Very good for French Polishing. Mix enough for a month or two. The shellac you buy in a can isn’t dated and can go well beyond its shelf life unbeknownst to you (until it’s too late).

These are really educational. Yep, learning a lot from you here Rob. Though I won’t be able to build a long gun from a plank as you do, maybe a pistol would be something to think about for myself. ( I did one many many years ago- a wheel lock). Watching these is giving me the itch to do another flintlock…
Thanks again!
If I can build a gun from a plank darn near anyone can bud ...

It’s got character and we’ll still shoot things, can’t wait to see if all finished up I think it looks kinda like an antique gun .I think it’s the black that gives it that kinda antique look we’ll see when it’s finished.

Holler at me if you dont have a barrel . 24 ga. , 26" long barrels are $26 a piece . They have used CNC machines if they had had them ....I build pretty primitive by today's standards but I still use some modern when I'm forced too or just be dumb not too .... Lighting and a fan are nice ! :)
You only have 24 Gauge, no 20 Ga?

She ain't finished but she's gonna stay like this awhile while I get some work done . The stock is done and protected now so its a functioning gun now . Still needs ....barrel browned , rings filed on barrel , T.G. browned , TG screws blued , S.P. soldered back together ...couple more small things but she can kill bunnies and burglers now ... Oops gotta put sight soldering pic up and stamping barrel pics first ....let's see here ,now ....
