A while back I started to save beef grease with the thought of makeing my own bullet lube by mixing 1/2 beef grease with 1/2 bee's wax. Then I got to thinking that if there was any salt in that grease it would rust by barrel. Question now is how do I get the salt out of the grease so I can use it? Thanks for any help. Mudd Turtle.

A lot of folks will render fat into grease in a process that uses water, basically boiling it. Then they chill it to solidify the grease, discard the water and remains of the fat, and sometimes boil the grease again with clean water to try to purify it further. You could try this with your grease - the salt should preferentially dissolve in the water if the process goes long enough and/or with enough stirring/mixing.

Joel

As was mentioned before, keep doing it 2-3 times. Will most everything out. Just don't leave it loaded for months and it will be fine

I have been able to pull out the salt from bacon fat with extended boiling. (why did I do it? to see if I could.)
So if you can desalt pig grease, you can probably desalt beef grease.
