Today, I bought cigarette rolling papers for making cartridges. I'm 73 YOA, and got a strange look when buying them. A buck for 250 Zig-Zag. I was slightly paranoid buying them because I figure the clerk thought I was an aged doper. But my first experience in rolling powder containers was pretty successful. I don't have a dowel that will accept a .357 round ball. So I rolled up about two dozen cartridge/semi cartridge containers.

Tomorrow, I hope to try them out. Sure beats doing it at the range. I will add a felt wad at the range...still paranoid about a chain-fire without the wad.

Nice!

Did you mean to type .357” ball? If not a 3/8” dowel shouldn’t be hard to find. A 23/64” dowel might be hard but could be sanded down I suppose.

I’ve also made some powder only paper cartridges. As I found both my NMA and ROA have a favorite accurate load despite the projectile being a ball or any of the various conicals I’ve used it makes sense if you may be interchanging projectiles:

:rotf: Well?
They got ya on camera too,, :haha:

I like the 100- 1 1/2's by Top or Joker,, they give ya a little more to work with for old clumsy fingers.
I went to the hobby shop and got a foot long 3/8 OD brass tube for a couple bucks,, it allows me to wrap the paper, lick-n-stick, then pull it down just a tad to twist the end. I can pull it off and have a perfect tube,, and/or pull it down a bit, twist, then use the brass tube to help load the charge with a funnel.
It's handy.
Next time you buy papers,, look the clerk in the eye and "cough" a little. Then smile.
:rotf:

Try this - they are much cheaper than cig paper and you get more

Not cheaper...1K Zig-Zag is $4. Package contains 250 for a dollar. I doubt I'll ever use one package. And they're gummed.
I'll stick with my original statement as far as price goes :v They are bigger and can be cut in half or thirds. Applying a little glue on the edge is no big deal and I feel they are made of a lighter weight paper so each to their own - nothing to get upset about  I think I paid under $5.00 for the box plus the cashier does not think I am a "druggie" just a "girly boy" :rotf:. I lost most of my hair so that's not the case :surrender:

I have my wife buy my zig-zags for my .36 navies. She is a old hippie and has no problem buying them.

IU occasionally do things like that. Used to buy the weirdest things for my model airplanes. You'd be surprised the looks you get!

In N. Coastal Cali you could walk in the store smokin a blunt and no one would notice or even care if they did. I use American Spirit papers. They’re made of flax and burn up well. There are varieties of hemp paper too and those also combust really well and are strong, but rather expensive.

Raw brand hemp papers are good ones.

That's where the old hippie's live

What ever happened to bull durum. You used to be able to buy a sack of that and it came with papers. In my youthful experimenting, it was my first attempt at smoking cigarettes, I don't remember how old, maybe 12 or so. It was terrible tobacco and the papers had no glue, but it was sold everywhere, and a lot of old timers still smoked it, as it was really cheap.

It came in a cloth bag, whereas Price Albert came in a can, which also came with papers. It was dry, but not terrible. When I was a kid, I smoked just about everything. Bull Durham wasn't all that good, burned quick though. PA didn't and IMO smelled better.

necchi, what's an "OD" brass tube?

I won't even bother asking where you find a hobby shop these days. Walt's Hobby Shop in my town closed its doors in 1972.

But I'm sure some super mall has one somewhere around here

I used to take a can of Velvet and rolling papers camping, it was a bit smoother than Prince Albert, I thought. Tried Bugler, too. It was a bit stronger than I cared for. I have several PA cans around here still, and a few different odd brands. They were a good size for storing lots of stuff.

I have not seen a sack of Bull Durum in years. My first smoking joy was corn silk, and husk as papers. I think we were smoking more fire than smoke.

Corn husks were the original rolling papers. Natives across the Americas used them to make cigarettes before Europeans showed up, and the Natives, Mexicans, and Spaniards are well documented to be using them in New Mexico, in the mid 19th century and later. They were used for rolling cigarettes for a much longer period than rolling papers have been.
