Who actually is regularly hunting small game with BP? What is your gun of choice? Pictures would be great! I’ve got a .32 Cherokee I’m planning on putting to use this year. I thought about going with a smooth bore shotgun but I already have the .32.

My small game hunting includes squirrels, rabbits and coyotes. I generally use my .32 flint lock during the early squirrel season when the leaves are still on the trees. Once deer season is over I switch to my .36 flinter for squirrels, rabbits and called in coyotes.

I traded my beautiful .32 off years ago, great fun rifle but for the last 15 years I've been using my .45 flint long rifle. With 25-30grs. of FFG it works great with head shots on squirrel, grouse, bunnies and the occasional creek duck. Even my normal carry load of 47grs. it's super accurate and provides multiple uses.

In my state, the maximum small game muzzle loader caliber is .36, and only with patched round ball for hunting on state land.

.32 dixie poor boy and custom built .20-gauge fowler here. the dixie is a right hand gun with inter changeable locks either flint or percussion, the fowler is left-handed flint. Sorry no pics not that good with the devil machine. Cannot figure how to get the pics from the cell phone to the computer to the site.

Wow those are beautiful pics! Those are the kind that make me ask myself why I still live in the Northeast:)

For now I’m using my .50 cal Kentucky percussion with 30 grains of powder. My .32 Kentucky flintlock doesn’t shoot consistently enough for small game. Lock needs more tuning than I have the know how. I’m looking to build a Fowler for small game.
