What is the best size cap for revolvers (Italian) I have heard No.10 but I have always used No.11. I have to pinch the No.11's to get them to stay on. They say the No.10's fit better. Please help. Also does the size make a differance in accuracy?

Each pistol from those Italians have been a PITA for me for years.
Just buy a new set of replacement nipples from Track of the Wolf if you can not find them localy.
The replacement nipples will be much more uniform and on spec than the nipples the pistols come with.

They are so bad from the factory that my current pistol 3 of my nipples were best suited to #10's 2 were best suited for #11 and 1 of them was best suited to a #12. (which I actually have a tin of but they are scarce as hens teeth) I just ussed #11's on that one as I wanna keep my #12's unfired.

It was such a PITA ussing diferant sized caps for each nipple I broke down and spent the 14$ to buy them localy. Fixed the issue and now my pistols take the same #11 that my rifles use. Ended that problem.

I agree, ditch the nipples. The OEM nipples are better suited for the trash bin.
I've developed an addiction to collecting C&B revolvers, and I always factor in the cost of replacement nipples. Quality stainless or Ampco bronze nipples will add $25-35 to the cost of a gun, but I think they are well worth it.

Mike

I use CCI 10's on a Pietta 1858, an ASM 1860 and a Uberti 1851 and haven't had a problem.
I use the CCI because that's what's available at the local shops.
Never occured to me to use any of the couple thousand 11's I have.
11's are for rifle nipples,
10's are for Revolver.
cynthialee;
Who makes and how did you get revolver nipps that use #11 caps?

Cynthiealee has the answer!

Traditions

They were on the rack at the local sporting goods store. #11's made to fit Pietta revolvers. I would have bought 2 more packs but I got the last ones they had. They come in a three pack. I have no clue why a 3 pack...Never saw a 3 shooter.

Cynthia,

I bought mine from Midway USA for my 1858 remmington. They are supposedly no. 11's but I still have to pinch CCI 11's to get them to fit. 1075's fit great but they are hard to find. I am going to try some no. 10's on advice from the board.

use the cap that fits snug on the nipple.
after loading all cylinders use a small piece of wood dowel rod to press the caps on firmly - keeping the gun pointed in a safe direction of course
dry firing will mushroom the ends of the nipples so take that into consideration. removeing them and chucking into a hand drill asnd fileing the ends will make them useable again.

this always scares me, pinching your caps to fit the revolver nipples is dangerous! this kind of thing causes chain fires.

USE PROPER FITTING CAPS!
